Apple is basically saying you can't produce any products for the iPhone that we already make or plan to make. How is that not a monopoly? Or better yet how is that not a disadvantage to the iphone owners? Its one thing to say they're protecting iphone users from harm but they're also not allowing competition. If they block an application of mine ever I'm taking them to court. Pystar already has them in a corner, thats why Apple is trying to settle out of court, guilty parties try this to not only get away with breaking the law but so they can continue to do it.

This is a nice feature but it seems you can only, "Get More Episodes” if you have already subscribed to one. I wish there was a way to browse podcasts to download and watch on the fly... like Apple TV allows you to do.

This is exactly monopoly behavior. Because Apple controls the music market, they can abuse their power and there is no recourse. Their new motto should be, "Think Different, but act the same".

Are you people for real? Apple can no more have a monopoly on their cellphones than BMW has a monopoly on cars. There are several smart phone makers out there. If you don't like how Apple distributes apps, don't buy an iPhone. Apple has EVERY RIGHT to control "the whole widget" as they say. And BTW, its OK to have a monopoly, but not abuse it to stifle choice in a market. They don't "control the music market". There are several alternatives (Amazon, Rhapsody). Plus, Apple is not a monopoly anyway as there are alternatives to EVERYTHING they make and their marketshare (except w/iPods) is smaller than everyone else's. So please, before you call Apple a monopoly, or say they use "monopoly behavior" know what you are talking about!

If you already own a BMW car, is BMW forbid you to install any portable MP3 player or iPod on their cars ? Or they forbid you to upgrade/add any "application" like custom sunshade or driver pillow, or even better display for passenger ? Or they only allowed you to install "approved" application like Apple does ?

If you own a BMW and it's under warranty you cannot change stuff as you like because you will lose your warranty. Same as apple ;-)

It is monopoly behavior but in no way does it reflect the good stuff Apple has done to the music market. Apple has every right to do so, besides what's the point of having an app that does the same thing that apple already does in an integrated way.

Wow. It is in no way a monopoly. Podcaster was replicating Podcasts, which happen to be the intellectual property of Apple I do believe. That's like saying you could start a burger joint and sell BicMac'sters and then claim McDonald's was being a monopoly when it sued you for copyright infringement.

They're not a monopoly because they're not [nearly] the only phone in town. Dont like it? Get a Google phone, or any one of a million Windows SmartPhones. If you're an iPhone user, you signed their usage agreement, and they can do it.

What MS got in trouble for, is using their "near monopoly" in the OS world, to strong-arm independant hardware manufacturers into not pre-installing software which would compete with a microsoft product. Ie: Not allow Dell to pre-install WordPerfect, because it competes with Word.

And as for the fanboy comparisons, compare apples to apples. App on iPhone = stereo on car. I CAN change the factory stereo for another one without voiding the warranty... but no, I cannot change the engine and keep the warranty. Get real people!

I for one, love the apple products and the way they do it. I'm an apple fan, though I own only an iPod from Apple. That's because, i believe the other products are overpriced. But it is justified. Their products and way of doing things is cleaner, neat, powerful and user-friendly. But, one thing beats me. Every day I'm seeing more and more of Apple "fanatics" who are so much in denial of the wrong-doings of Apple. I mean, had this been another biggie like our "famous" MS, people would cry out loud for, maybe, "human rights" with regards to MS Office pricing and Office Productivity monopoly or whatever that MS manages to "attempt" to do well! But look at this... Apple fans let Apple walk away, by saying, if you don't like it, don't buy an iPhone! Ridiculous! What about the efforts/hours and ideas of the developer who developed Podcaster. He doesn't count, because he doesn't have a big legal Shark team behind him? C'mon, we grown-ups and mature technology users/creators/followers should have a sense of right and wrong should know better! This is wrong. I know Apple developed a wonderful device and generously decided to open it up to the developers for creating some wonderful apps for it (i'll be generous here and ignore the profits that apple is reaping out of it!). But let's be fair here. Don't hate someone and cut them out just because they had the idea before you and did it before you! Don't lose your fans Apple!

Technically this doesn't count as a monopoly since their are other choices.

Ethically, Apple should tell developers up front if their app won't be allowed so they won't waste their money developing it.

And as for analogies: If a short in your custom car stereo casues your car to burn up then your waranty is voided. Apple has to make sure that its device doesn't violate FCC rules and wreak havoc in the airwaves and on other people's equipment. And second, since they own the app store they have no more obligation to sell something than Amazon does. Now if you want to argue that jailbreaking should be legal (but not supported) then I'll join your side.

And you can not add some pillow / driver pillow to make your driving experience more comfortable ?
