Shanghai (China) - Dell announced to customers in Shanghai that the company will be offering a first look at its new instant-on system for Latitude laptops sometime next week. Without booting their computers, users will have instantaneous access to computer data and other major applications, said Jeff Clarke, senior vice president and general manager of Dell Product Group.

The system will allow users to work with their email and other documents without having to engage the CPU, thus conserving energy. Dell promises that this technology will provide a “multi-day” battery lifespan for new Latitude models called Latitude On.

In August, Clarke shared information about the system stating that it would run on a Linux based operating system and a separate secondary chip in an effort to conserve and increase battery life.
