Anaheim (CA) – Female night elves, an orc warrior and even Rick Astley couldn’t defeat a very blue Draenei female and her motorized turtle at the 2008 Blizzcon costume contest.  Dozens of attendees competed for a replica Frostmourne sword and the costumes were impressive.  Most of the contestants tried to replicate their favorite World of Warcraft characters by manufacturing their own clothes and weapons, but in the end a huge green turtle named, “Speedy” stole the show.

It took Amanda from Arizona three months to make the gigantic turtle.  The turtle is big enough to mount and rolls around on wheels hidden behind a black shroud.  The head and legs move realistically and even the mouth opens and shuts while the entire contraption is rolling around.

When compared to the other contestants, Amanda’s turtle was the obvious winner and that’s probably why Blizzard officials had her appear last on stage.  The slow lumbering turtle made a victory lap around the stage and costume contest host and comedian Jay Mohr also briefly mounted the turtle.

I’ve included a 50+ picture gallery of the best costumes, but I think the best picture is of three Blizzard employees looking at the turtle with gaping mouths as it rolled onto the stage.

What I was saying is, 90% of the pictures are female, and only 10% are male, which we know the true gaming world, it's the opposite. It looks like a WoW PR stunt to draw in more horny teens, to play this god forsaken game. I played it for a month, hated the community, never looked back, too many teens with too much time on their hands, and thinks it's cool to utter profanity on every other word. Plus think it's funny killing off someone that's 60 levels below them. Wow, what a challenge.

I didn't see a single REAL WoW player among all of the adult women, IE, I would do each one of those women. Every single one I met during my five months of play, looked nothing like any of them, where exactly are these(apparently well off enough to travel to Blizzcon and make these amazing costumes) gorgeous female WoW players? I just don't buy it, honestly. The guys are all stereotypes, glasses, nerdy goatees, some are even heavy set, the guys I played with for those five months, but none of the chicks sync up with that. Nice to see you guys fixed your photos! I remember back in 2007 when I'd click a photo and it would all lag and jerk, and take forever to display the picture, now it's slick and responsive.

... but I think Blizzard should stop spending all that money on paying models and actors to dress up to attract more horny little kids, and spend more money on developing Starcraft 2.

For those asking where are the male pictures and why are there so many females in costume? It's due to the fact that cosplayers are predominantly female. I run competitions/events and do photography around Australia. In all my years of experience, I can tell you it's mostly girls who make these costumes and enter competitions. You have to be good with sewing and you have to be artistic. Not minding getting up on stage in an outlandish outfit helps too.

All of the photos posted (starting from the Sylvannas on) are all REAL wow players. I know cause I'm one of them and got to meet many of these lovely ladies backstage. The elves in the first several photos are hired models for Blizzcon, however everyone else does play WoW. As for why no men posted here... what Eugene says rings true... although the Tyreal and the Bloodfang sets I saw at the costume (two handsome men!) were amazing.
