Anaheim (CA) – More than 15000 crazed Blizzard Entertainment fans packed will pack into the Anaheim Convention Center this weekend for the 3rd Blizzcon convention.  Attendees braved long lines to grab their badges, but they didn’t seem to mind as a playable demo of Diablo 3 awaited them inside.  Content teases of the upcoming Starcraft II and World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King also soothed the savage fans.

Blizzcon runs from Friday October 10th til Saturday October 11th.  Blizzard’s president and co-founder Mike Morhaime gave the opening keynote and immediately apologized for the hassle people went through to get their tickets.  When Blizzard first started selling Blizzcon tickets, the online servers repeatedly crashed from the flood of traffic.  After the problems were finally sorted, 15000 tickets were sold in 15 minutes.

Attendees were allowed to pick up their tickets the day before the event and some people reported waiting for one to two hours.  This actually worked out well because the ticket lines on opening day looked quite managable.

Competitive gaming is a big deal at Blizzcon and Morhaime told the audience that $200,000 in gaming prize money was going to be awarded.  The show will also have the first ever Starcraft II competition, something which will give competitors a leg up on other gamers when the game finally launches.

Speaking of Starcraft II, Morhaime didn’t give a specific launch date yet, but he did say that development was progressing well.  Another Blizzard favorite, Diablo 3 was in playable format at the show and even better multiplayer cooperative mode has now been enabled.

Blizzard staff has been very helpful and the press room is equipped with 12 demo machines - 4 for Starcraft II, Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King.  Hah, no waiting in line for us - well we do have to fight other press for time.

We’ll be bringing you more information at Blizzcon and stay tuned for more excellent pictures (costumes are great here) and articles.
