Microsoft has responded to recent reports that there may be a Blu-ray drive on the way for its Xbox 360 game console. According to Major Nelson, there are “no plans to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience.”

Once again, Microsoft blasted Blu-ray as not having enough traction. "It's pretty clear it's not the next DVD,” Xbox 360 product manager Aaron Greenberg said.

Microsoft has every opportunity to offer a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360, as the company could easily tap Toshiba and its TSST joint venture with Samsung. Either Microsoft has learned from the external HD DVD drive and the indication that an external HD drive for a game console isn’t a good idea ore Blu-ray just isn’t a strategic fit for the Xbox 360: As it seems right now, Microsoft may skip Blu-ray and bet on movie streaming.
