Chicago (IL) - Apple said has not found any evidence that would support claims that certain Mac Pro computers may be shipping with toxic materials.
 
In a statement provided to Macworld, Apple spokesman Bill Evans said that Apple has “not found anything that supports this claim,” but mentioned that the company continues to “investigate it for the customer.” Yesterday, French newspaper Liberation as well as a range of other European newspapers reported that Mac Pros that were built prior to 2008 emit an odor, believed to be benzene, which can cause diseases including cancer.

The reports have yet to be dismissed. At this time, Apple apparently is still looking into the issue. That may sound a bit strange, given the fact that similar claims have been posted on the Internet for more than two years now. It is somewhat unlikely that Apple has not been aware of a potential problem. 

Over the past few years, Apple has made attempts to make its products more environmentally friendly.  For example, in 2007 the company started to discontinue use of the fluorescent lamp in their LCD screens in an attempt to eliminate the presence of mercury.

However, Greenpeace does not consider Apple to be among the most environmentally friendly tech companies operating in the U.S. today.

It figures that Apple would say that. I wonder how they handle their bugs. They just live in denial, Macs are perfect, right?
