Chicago (IL) - Buffalo Technology is out today with two new 8x Blu-ray Disc drives that come one each external and internal. These are called the MediaStation 8x external Blu-ray drive and MediaStation 8x internal Blu-ray drive.

Buffalo has designed these drives, according to the company, to offer up 8x read/write speeds for BD-R Blu-ray media. The drive is also rated to handle other media at varying speeds, including Blu-ray BD-RE 2x, DVD RAM 5x, DVD -R 16x, DVD +R 16x, DVD-RW 6x, DVD +RW 8x, CD-R 48x and CD-RW 24x.

The external MediaStation can connect via USB 2.0 or eSATA, while the internal drive interfaces via SATA. The external, as well, measures 6.4- x 1.9- x 11-inches and weighs only less than four pounds. Both come with a suite of CyberLink software for video editing and playback and will be available shortly.

Prices are $400 for the external version and $350 for the internal drive.
