Chicago (IL) - Pentax has announced a new DSLR system, which reportedly will fit the needs of consumers who want to "transition from a point-and-shoot digital camera to digital SLR photography." The price for this transition, if you follow the Pentax path, will run you around $700 come November. The Pentax K2000 DSLR system consists of the new K2000 body, an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL lens and AF200FG Auto Flash. Pentax says this system will be a fit for DSLR beginners, offering features like a 10.2 megapixel CCD, a 2.7” wide-view LCD panel and a compact design that facilitates one handed operation. Useful functions of the K2000 are set to include auto-picture modes, shake reduction, dust removal and a programmable help button to explain current camera settings. Pentax says that the lens included with the K2000 is part of a new series with the DA L designation and that it will offer the "same optical design, construction and compatibility" as the current DA 18-55mm II and DA 50-200mm lenses. The AF200FG, meanwhile, is a "hot-shoe" flash which has a lightweight body, wide angle diffuser, guide number of 20 and dial operation.
