Knoxville (TN) - The residence of David Kernell, who allegedly “hacked” Governor Sarah Palin’s Yahoo email account, was searched by FBI agents early Sunday morning, local TV station WBIR reports.

Agents arrived around midnight at Kernell’s apartment, which he shares with three roommates, interrupting a student party. WBIR reports that Kernell, 20-year old son of state Rep. Mike Kernell, and his friends fled the apartment when the FBI agents arrived.

The FBI recorded the names of the remaining students and questioned them for “1.5 to 2 hours”. The agents also took pictures “of everything inside the apartment.”
 
David Kernell is believed to have illegally accessed Sarah Palin’s email account and published background information of the “hacking” under the name “Rubico”. The FBI confirmed that it launched a formal investigation into the events on Wednesday.  

Mike Kernell declined to comment on the matter.

I don't seem to understand the guys comments above, if he is glad they are doing this or not. But I hope they kick this kids but. I am an IT guy and think idiots like this kid should understand their are consequences for their actions. He gained access to someone's email. What are the terms when you open snail mail that's not yours??? Lets apply them to email. I use email more then snail mail anyways. I hope this kids gets some kind of punishment. We'll see though, his dad is a Represenative.

Yeah, those are the actions of innocent students. Are they really stupid enough to believe the FBI won't catch them? Unless they fled while carrying the computer they used they'll be in pretty bad shape. If they formatted the hard drive of used some other obvious method of destroying evidence then they'll guarantee their convictions just like that woman who got sued for sharing music on Kazaa.

he must have forgot his ethic class...or that he needed one. That's for breaking the law... yea, people like him should be catch and make an example. Spoil kid think he is untouchable... well, internet has tracking and logs everywhere. Rate Task up, that woman was a single mother who's life was ruined by that conviction, what single Minnesota mother is going to be able to pay 222,000 dollars? That's likely thirty years of pay for her, what's worse is there wasn't even much evidence, and they didn't even have the stolen songs as evidence during the trial, and she didn't even share the songs, that does not compare to this. Don't compare the two, it's a disgusting comparison.
