Like the title says, I wonder if this might be on purpose. A company that would have advertising as misleading (and outright lying) as their Mac commercials the past year or two.....gotta wonder.

it's third party software that is poorly written that causes those and not the windows os' fault itself?? oh how will they include that in their next commercial? This MS should put that in the commercial first, you know we just had another bsod happen with our system, I sure am glad that apple fixed their buggy software so fast so our users could continue to enjoy their computers.

I think Mac programmers are just lazy with vista, itunes didn't work well for the first 6-8 months vista was out

"On purpose" seems a little unlikely, as the iTunes store is their livelihood. Frankly, they were just lazy. As a software developer myself, I can see very easily that they did everything wrong, and that the blue screen problem is just a side note.

I'm actually not sure what the commentators mean when they say that iTunes was buggy with Vista from the start. It was buggy with XP from the start. It is the most ridiculous piece of bloatware I've ever seen. I actually had to set up a virtual machine so that I had a safe place to install that garbage. I'll never make the mistake of buying an iPod again. Great product, no question there, but if I have to crank up a separate VM just to copy my MP3s to my music player, I'll pass.

It would have some value to Apple to release crap software in the middle of Microsofts advertising blitz to draw attention to the fact that the OS is easily succeptible to poorly written 3rd party software. The OS SHOULD NOT crash no matter what crappy drivers or software do... a tall order, but a desirable trait in one's OS :)

I am not a Mac fan (too much OS hand holding for me and too h/w restricted) but I do have the impression they crash less now. I remember the crap-ass Macs I had to use in some of the univeristy labs ALWAY freakin' crashed after a few pages of writing without saving. It was like they knew...

iPod is a great product with lousy software.

I swear that Apple doesn't have a QA lab! (If they do, everyone in it should be fired.) Even their OS-X Operating System got more stable and better after version changes. I.E. 10.1 is better than 10.0, 10.2 is better than 10.1, and so on. Except you have to pay for those changes! It's as if someone at Apple had said, "lets just ship the product, we'll fix it later. And then charge them for the service packs as the next major release." Customers want something new, something cool, not something that works right. Even their hardware goes through several revisions before they stumble upon getting it right. It's hard for me to believe that they found a huge fan base with quality this low.

...Itunes 8 crashed on my mac with 10.5.4. causing my iPod touch to get stuck in the middle of the 2.1 update. It took a while to re-animated the ipod. This is the first time that it happened and I've updating for a while now. I'd say the update is crappy.
