TSMC, UMC slowing down 12" fab expansion

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), and other foundries are slowing their 12-inch fab expansion, showing no signs of active equipment move-in for their ongoing 12" projects, according to sources with equipment suppliers. Although TSMC has maintained that the fourth and fifth stages of expansion to its 12" Fab 12 at the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) are proceeding as scheduled, the sources claimed that the world's number one pure-play foundry remains cautious and conservative about placing equipment orders for the project.
