Blackberry maker RIM was the biggest winner in a slowing smartphone market in the second quarter, roughly doubling its market share from a year ago to 17.4%, research firm Gartner said on Monday. The market was still dominated by Finland's Nokia Oyj , which sold 15.3 million phones with capabilities like e-mail and navigation, giving it a 47.5% share. But this was down from 50.8% a year ago as competition intensified in the consumer smartphone market.

Would you even mention Apple? I realize the fanboys go wild for Apple, but really, their market is an extreme minority, they wouldn't factor into this. It's not unlike reporting that Sansa, not Microsoft, are the big winners in the MP3 player market.

Does anyone out there truly believe Apple could be the big winner in this market??? When is the disproportioned coverage of the iPhone going to end??? Just the fact that the iPhone 'tag' here on TG Daily is so large makes me sick to my stomach...

it's because people expected apple to steal shares from rim/nokia it happened with nokia (well, we assume) but certainly not with rim since it doubled
