for the rest the browser is interesting, but I'm not exactly keen on having my whole internet experience depend on 1 company.

The :% issue is non-issue unless that is the only thing you type into the address bar. clicking on a link with those characters or typing them into the address bar after other characters will not crash Chrome. Someone has too much time on their hands. -jf

I just tried it 3 times and couldn't get it to crash.

When it crashed for me (I choose cancel), when I restarted it, it remembered all my open tabs. YMMV. β

Worked for me, but I was able to open my tabs again.
All it takes is to type the :% without hitting enter, just the presence does it.

after a day of use I am going to uninstall it. Too many web sites does not work properly plus sandbox apparently is joke.

It is not unusual for the first version to have alot of bugs. Microsoft has been using this excuse for a while and they are still around. :)

That's not really the point. The fact is that this is clearly a bug, and should not be there. With minimal interaction Chrome will terminate abruptly and without reason - therefore, it is an issue.

I don't think it's necessary to take jabs at the finders personal life. It's exactly what Google want people to do - find problems. Hence their public beta release.

Keep in mind this is the very first beta release of this. Ever. This is essentially beta 0.1 :)

So yes, their internal search database has a bug in it's query module that isn't properly handing a data input. It's not uncommon and that character sequence IS uncommon. I'm sure it's a fairly simple fix though.

As for why it crashes the whole browser? Well google assumed the shell (which would include your cache/search DB that HAS to function across all tabs) is solid. Take that out and you nuke the underlying framework that each isolated page runs on. Glad they at least catch the exception instead of causing massive corruption or similar.

So yeah, minor bug. It's like the people who figured out how to crash the iphone by hitting it with a hammer from a certain angle while underwater in a zero-gravity enviornment...and then said it was a disaster that would end apple. (this is meant to be funny, and i'm not an apple fan even) I'm sure beta .2 or .1a for Chrome will be out in a few weeks.

I'm more interested in how simple/quick/painless/unintrusive the updates will be. From a corporate perspective that's critically important.

I found this issue while doing some testing. Like any bug, you usually just stumble upon it. Which I did with a typo. There could be more to the problem than just this one issue. I do want to see what they will do to fix it and how long before something like this is fixed. Will they also disclose information about why it fails(like Microsoft does in their KB's)?

Anyone else notice that the characters required to crash the thing are like a smiley? I'd bank money on this "bug" being a bit of code written to test the way the machine crashes. Bit too simple to crash for it not to have been a design element that wasn't removed when it should have been (back at alpha)

It didn't crash. BTW-- What company is perfect? If we were to expect that then no one would be using any Window's Software. I'm patient because Google has produced wonderful programs and I'm willing to see where this goes. Attacking it is useless.
