Microsoft announced the release to manufacturing of the latest version of its SQL Server, which comes with new features, such as support for policy-based management, auditing, large-scale data warehousing, geospatial data, and advanced reporting and analysis services. As Ted Kummert, corporate vice president of the Data and Storage Platform Division at Microsoft, pointed out, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is the only major database to include comprehensive, tightly integrated functionality for data management, as well as advanced business intelligence out of the box.

If you arent a software developer or dba then yea you probably wont care. But for those of us that develop for microsoft platforms this is good news. SQL server 2005 was a great product. Easy to use, powerfull and much cheaper to purchase and maintain. (imo) I have high hopes for 2008 and look forward to getting my hands on it.
