There is a waiting list for Priuses so the only surprise is how small the increase is. Soon it will go the way of the Pinto when there are more stylish and efficient cars out like the Chevy Volt.

Toyota's Hybrid's are here NOW, unlike GM's Volt. From what I understand, the Volt is due to arrive in 2010! Even so, who knows if GM will actually deliver or fully support it. GM has its sordid history with their EV1 which they killed in favor of larger, gas guzzling SUV's and minivans.

Buying a hybrid is still more expensive than buying a regular car that gets decent mpg. You'll never save money buying a hybrid until the price comes down on them or fuel hits $6-7/gal.

That's what the uninformed always say. Regarding the Prius; try finding a non-hybrid car with the same features, size (same interior space as Camry/Accord), safety, *and* in the same class for less. Never mind that as a Prius driver I'm getting 45-55mpg depending on my driving (averaging closer to 50-52 mpg) TODAY.

Re Volt; I'd love an electric car as much as the next guy (assuming it has decent range, ie: 200 mile/charge), but good luck banking on GM or any of the big three – they've done such a great job staying ahead of the curve and providing for their customers in the past...

Best way to save gas? Nope, but the reduction in emissions is totally worth it to some people. Plus the Prius is an excellent car by its own merit. It's roomy and comfortable with decent driving dynamics. It's a viable choice for anyone looking for a car in the midsize segment.

Try the Honda Fit. There has been numerous reports that it still doesn't pay to buy a hybrid. I'm just waiting for these batteries to leak/go bad. It's going to be an expensive situation.

As far as space, you can't compare a Prius to a Accord/Camry. Accord is a full size car. It has more room. It has the room like a Geo Metro.

Prius is the most expensive car in it's class. Do some research it'll be interesting on what you will find.

Are you guys just upset that you don't have or can't afford one? The Prius is the one of the most cost effective cars when you combine price with reliability and mpg. The only cars better are the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris. I can tell you that unless you are 5'6 or less, the Yaris is not an option.

Some say you won't really save unless gas hits $6 per gallon. Not only is it not true, but how long do you think it will be till gas hits $6 per gallon? At the rate we're going that will only take about 4 years tops and I drive cars till they die.

I found the article you attempted to link to. It is complete and utter garbage. Clearly it was written by someone who hates foreign cars and doesn't care about reliability. It repeatedly recommends the Chevy Aveo, which is well known to be one of the least reliable cars out there. The claims about the nickel plant as an environmental hazard are also misleading and false. Here's an excerpt from a "reputable" article that discusses that plant:
