What a cry baby. This happens to so many people all the time... boo hoo.

...and it's not any fun. The employees in the airport treat Americans like dirt. My passport was stolen and Delta absolutely refused to accommodate me or put me on a later flight. I ended up sleeping on a bench in the airport and waiting until the next afternoon same time to leave and I had to pay for the new flight.

To Henrik: Why should he stop crying? This should NOT happen to "many people all the time." Airlines ought to up the respect to paying customers.

To J. Doe: Airlines are obligated to check immigration papers before allowing you enter the United States. They are subject for heavy fines by U.S. Immigration and will be required to fly you back to where you came from if you turn out to be a non-admissible person. Thus, without a valid passport, Delta rightfully denied your boarding.

i've backpacked there, others i know have done it, and have no real desire to go back, especially to Paris

Andrew, you need to travel a bit more in France. Not all French people hate Americans, I’m French and I know a lot of French people who do enjoy Americans and people from other countries. It’s not because the last time you traveled to Paris, you found out that people were rude and did not speak English there, that all French people hate Americans. People living in Paris hate French people who do not live in their city… I’ve lived there long enough to know how rude and stupid the Parisians can be… Even if they make a good part of France, Paris does not make the whole country. Try the south of France next time.
As for the lawyer, this guy really need to get a life and he incarnate why make people think badly of Americans in other countries. I’m sure he is the kind of guy who uses $1 bills toilet paper to wipe is “behind”.
