doesn't sunlight contain ultraviolet? and if so... wouldn't that cause the coating to "light up" when hit with sunlight thus causing a blinding windshield for the driver to stare at?

or could they put a UV filter for all UV frequencies except the one they need (i don't even know if that's possible, just an idea off the top of my head)

True. This feature cannot be about elderly drivers. It should be about bad weather, night vision...

Windshields (and glass in general) does not pass UV light. Therefore, if the coating is on the inside, sunlight won't affect it.

...though I agree, enhancements are nice, but if you can't see the road or obstacles in it, you probably shouldn't be behind the wheel.

Several years ago Cadillac was selling a night-vision heads-up system. So this is somehow supposed to improve on that? Is this more like KITT where it identifies the objects in front of you, instead of just enhancing vision?

Sounds like what the DARPA grand challenge was doing with the autonomous cars. That's where the research needs to go, making cars that make up for human error, or ultimately don't need humans at all.

But I don't expect GM to last much longer if they don't first deal with the here and now, like making efficient and reliable cars that people actually WANT to buy.
