Intel is set to launch its Montevina notebook platform, which will be called Centrino 2, on Monday. It appears that the company has cleared issues with graphics subsystem and FCC certification for wireless components and is ready to let the platform, which will bring several new 45 nm Penryn processors with lower power consumption (25 watt).

Intel will introduce Centrino 2 with “some” chipsets. The full range of chipsets will be following within a few weeks.

Just don’t ask for WiMax. While it originally appeared that the Wimax chipset EchoPeak could be launched with Montevina, our sources indicate that we should not expect the hardware for several months. Once the reorganization of Sprint’s former Wimax network has been finalized, Intel is expected to roll out Echo Peak as soon as the network becomes available.
