WTF, there's still people using it?

we'll be able to use XP... they can threaten us to stop support, doesn't mean I'll jump to Vista right away. I built myself a very decent machine in october 2006 and I plan on using it as long as I can. That means NOT upgrading to Vista since it would slow it down considerably unless I turn off most of what makes vista... vista.

Ah, that was the OS on my first own computer (like it was actually mine and not the family's 33Mhz, 4MB RAM, 80MB hard drive, DOS pc). I do remember thinking it was strange that everyone I knew had 3.1, yet I had 3.11 for Workgroups for some reason (timing I guess). Didn't have Google to look it up back then either.

Nevertheless, it was a classic, and is missed. Ran like charm on my top-of-the-line 100Mhz Packard Bell system. Then a few months later, Windows 95 came out and the whole world changed.

Man WFW 3.11 was the last REAL OS that MS made. I still run it on my core 2 quad core, it's way faster and more stable than WIN 95 (don't even get me started on WIN 98). Peer to peer networking is the wave of the future and we should all get on board once this internet thang blows over. Nothing beats a BBS online game at 9600 baud!

Seriously, what embedded app would ever want to use 3.11?????? Was that even 32-bit?

Applications that don't have 10s or 100s of megabytes of memory laying around!

I've also seen many POI (Point of Informations) systems, like stand-alone touch screen stations (directories in a mall etc.) that, when crashed, showed the typical 16 bit Windows 3.11 desktop.

It also explains, why the missiles in Iraq never hit their targets right. :-)
