If you take the twisted point of view that next gen style consoles should have been HD, then ok he has a point. However I would bet at least 1 out of ever 3 wii buyers would have considered a 360 if the wii was a crappy gaming machine, so I have to disagree with his point of view.

Unlike the 360, the Wii does not explode and it is fun.

I love the Wii, it is a great console, but I kind of have to agree with him. It isn't really competition directly for the PS3 and 360. It is DEFINITELY used a lot more for entertainment much like playing board games, more than it is "hardcore" gaming like the PS3, 360, and PC gaming.

By comparison, you get 'Server' which is a novelty; and 'Vista'. My god any novelty of that wore off quick, it only attains the status of 'failure'.

What is their definition of a console that ISNT novelty? All gaming console is intended for playing games and having fun. Regardless how much more cutting edge their technology is in a side by side comparison.

Nintendo had a good idea using motion sensor so get over it MS and Sony. Sales figures are telling you what exactly people like in a next gen console. Innovation, better price tag, free internet play.

My interpretation is: "We hate that Nintendo came up with a control scheme that's actually fun and usable by everyone. We're doing everything we can to copy it, and once we do, we'll be able to win because our hardware is better."

I can't think that anyone will really "graduate" to a much less comfortable controller. People who didn't grow on the Xbox/PS controller will demand something better.

I still think it's a great gaming machine
you can play games like zelda for hours on end without getting bored
but after you've completed the few true games out for it that aren't multi-player required (not on paper, no, not required.. but in reality? well, why would anyone play wii sports alone? all you have to do it sit on your ass and move flick your wrist slightly and you win) it does become a novelty

but guess what
so does the 360 (although it's harder due to its extensive range of games)

once you're bored of all the crap games (heh) you can either watch blu-ray movies on it or even use it as a PC

install linux (or even keep the sony OS and use the web browser. it isnt THAT bad) and do whatever you want with it

Still, not everyone agrees with me, so it may have been foolish for such a high-profile guy to make a public comment like that. Not that it's likely to influence anyone's buying decision.

I hate to admit it, but he has a point. I own a Wii exclusivly myself and I still see the point. Just look in any gaming magazine, Just about any big game comes out for PS3 and Xbox360, but not the Wii. Not to mention all the other limitations Nintendo in their infinate knowlege decided to add (poor online support, no downloadable content, etc). Very few people own JUST a Wii. Most people own it in addition to at least one other console.

I play my 360 and ps3 more because those platforms have the games I like to play. However, in my opinion, Nintendo is the only true next-gen console. It brings something completely new to the playing field which is what next-generation products should be. All Microsoft and Sony cared about is pretty graphics and HD games. Sorry, but Nintendo is again the innovator that everyone else is going to copy in the future.

You're going to bring in the Windows Server line? I've been using 2003 and 2008. They are solid. Espially with Hyper-V in 2008(it's awesome). Vista...I haven't had any problems with it, nor do I personally know anybody that had any problems with it. Most people complained that it was different but easy to use.

Now back to the story. Yes the Wii might be out selling 360, but you've also have to take in consideration that the 360 game library is geared for all types of people. The Wii is mostly for pick-up and play for a party, which is novelty IMHO. Most of the people I know that owns a Wii, only owns about 3 games. I think if they would break down the software sales, it would show that the 360 is beating the Wii.

I know you people just love to bash MS. But what he says is MOSTLY right. The Wii is NOT a direct competitor to the 360 or the PS3. That’s like trying to compare motorcycles to cars and say that they are in direct competition for sales. I wouldn’t call it a novelty, but it is a TOY for kids, women and grandparents. No real gamer will play with the wii for more then an hour.

Even Mark Rein (vice president of Epic (Unreal Tournament)) in an interview posted at gamesindustry.biz says that he wont develop for the Wii.

I would have to agree, example...if someone who plays a Wii wants to get into some real first person shooters, more than likely he/she is going to opt for a 360/PS3, Nintendo just does not make that many FPS games for the Wii, and that is not their business model either. Nintendo is targeting the masses, not just the traditional gamer who wants action, driving, FPS games..etc... So they make games that are easy to use, quick turnarounds on rewards and fun to play in person with another person(s).

That all being said though, MS and Sony are definitely trying to get a little piece of the Nintendo pie with some new motion controllers and group oriented games in development. So Sony/MS say yeah your not targeting the same audience, but we'd love to get some of your audience's money!!! LOL

Sorry, but the excuse that Wii isn't a direct competitor and is only a novelty doesn't wash. Every Wii game sold is one less XBox or PS3 game sold, so yes, the 360 and the PS3 ARE competing with the Wii for game sales but it's worse for MS and Sony because all their profit is in game sales. Nintendo doesn't need to sell games to be profitable because they don't take a loss on the hardware. So every time someone buys the Wii version of a popular game, MS and Sony have a harder time making up their loss on the consoles.

I liked playing my sisters Wii. It was alot of fun. I got alot of exercise playing it. It is not a competitor for XBox 360 since it is only a game console and not something I really want to have. I want a Wii. :)

Is an extremely effective social gaming platform. People that want to play intense, high res. games will get a good PC... hence the "enthusiasts" all get a good PC. But the average person just wants something fun to bash around with in the living room with their friends while they are all drunk. They dont need flashy graphics, immersive single player campains... just plain button bashing and wiimote swingin FUN! The Wii has kicked a$$ in that sense.... and it doesnt burn a hole in your wallet either.

Ha ha ha ha. Oh, man, I fell down. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. No, the Xbox 360 isn't competing with the Wii. That's very true. Kind of like how the Clippers aren't competing with the NBA West--but they could beat Cal State Fullerton, probably. Ha ha ha.

Did I just see someone call Wii players not real gamers? I'm sure I didn't. What kind of idiot would say such a thing? Since when does getting a Wii after many years of playing games on past systems take away the title of real gamer? Why don't we get news updates of when the Microsoft director uses the washroom? No REAL gamer would park their butt in front of TV to play a game. They'd be gathering around their dining room table and playing a REAL game with their REAL friends and family. All 360 or PS3 (and PC) get at this point is just sequels to games and genres that were old 8 years ago. When was the last time any thing new came out? Especially from a big studio?
