Taiwan PND vendor Mitac International plans to launch its first GPS-enabled 3G handset in the fourth quarter of this year, according to company sources, who also added that the forthcoming 3G handset will be built using the Qualcomm handset platform. Mitac' s Mio-branded 3G handset is expected to take on Garmin's Nuvifone 3G handset, which is also expected to be available in the North American market starting in the fourth quarter, said market sources.
