Seriously, if you're going to insult the poverty of a community and go back to poke fun at them you deserve to have rocks thrown at you. Sometimes people are forced into those living situations, expecially in this day and age. The cost of living has gone up, the housing market has taken a dump on itself. People are losing jobs in many of the markets. I still don't understand the point of posting these things on YouTube, is it really that funny to insult poverty? These idiots think they are part of Anonymous because they are posting under their online alias, but youtube has shown time and time again that it's easily tracable to your IP, not to mention if your dumb enough to put your face in the video. I hope it's a lesson learned by these kids.

Maybe we should just pelt everyone with stones for excercising their right to free speech. Yes, Cracker, they continue to have this right even if you or someone else disagrees or is offended by what they are communicating. BTW, I find your commentary offensive. It used to be that you'd put unpopular people in pits and stoned them until they died (*sigh*...good times...*wipes away nostalgic tear*) for the love of god people join the '90s (I say that because you obviously aren't quite at the same level as most of civilized society) and get rid of your ridiculous puritanical ideas. Perhaps it might have been more constructive to email YouTube and request the video be removed or ask the poster to do so, politely, you know, with words containing more than one syllable.

Here's another idea, perhaps use it to your advantage, post a retort showing the positive aspects of your town, and I'm sure there are some. Encourage tourism, anything other than foolish violence. Remember when we turn on each other the terrorists win. Losers!

It comes down to those people who exercise this right sometimes use it to abuse both the right and other people. Does this sound like good use of the right? Not really. It was just forseen that a smart well educated opinion which would contradict sensationalised opinion should be able to be said, and not for some reason political or lawfully or otherwise removed. However, does this fall into it?

Sometimes people see the words and not the meaning behind them. They then sit on their base rights and figure all the different things they can get away with. Also. When you post on a blog/forum/youtube, you do not have american bill of rights protecting you. You've posted your view on something that is not specifically american.

Either way, its the show of a stupid nation and stupid followers with a fight against "Stupids" vs "idiots". Essentially what happened was a small group of radicalist jerks decided to post on a video and a bunch of radialist stupids decided to respond in force. In my personal opinions if none of these people were born i couldnt really see a major downfall for the human race. Either side of the fence should be ashamed.

The hamlet can use it too. Put up billborads along the road to boost tourism: "Visit Onionville and Get Stoned!"

I'm not saying that you can't excersize your right for free speech. I'm just saying if you're going to insult a community you should expect retaliation. I mean, if I walk up to the average joe on the street and start insulting them, chances are I'm going to get hit and thats why I don't do that sort of thing. I wouldn't be the one throwing rocks at them however I would be one of the first to laugh when they got hit by one. It's common sense people, I take responsibility for my actions... so should everyone else.

There is a thing called respect and "Freedom of Speach" allows people to disrespect others, thus teaches their childern to disrespect. So now we got a nation of people who disrespects their elders, laws, or any authority for that matter.

Having people to voice their opinons if fine but giving them the right to slander and degrade isn't.

Its not America's freedom of speech that is wrong. the problem is people like you who don't know what they are talking about and don't know their rights. Your rights end where another persons rights begin. There is no overlapping. People who are slandered have the right to clear their name (in this case post a retort video), or go to the extremes and even sue.

Hell, you can even call the police/administrators/etc. for slander and have them remove the video, lock user accounts etc.

People who think they have the right to talk fabrication for the purpose of destruction, are stupid. That is not covered under the right of "freedom of speech" only truths are covered. You are free to speak the truth, but if you step on another ones toe( a.k.a. rights) then you are in violation of slander.

Damn YouTube. They already took the videos down. All you get is a page saying "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation." CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??!! I really wanted to watch "Oniontown Adventures" and see what it was all about.

I saw "Oniontown Adventures Part 1", about 11 minutes, and it's pretty boring stuff. There is one thing of note. The small town is fairly filthy. The residents could do a better job cleaning up their trash and placing it in their containers, which are present. For anyone who cares, this is Part I. I was unable to locate Part II and, frankly, I don't really care:

Skythra wants to talk about free speech but can't even spell speech right? I guess that's one case against allowing free speech.

And what does the author really mean by "their quant 'hamlet'"? I had to lookup quant, only to find out it has to do with being an expert in the use of mathematics, particularly within the realm of investments. Yah, not sure how that applies here.

And now that the videos have been removed I can't even find out the story behind everything. Ugh, I guess I'll have to spend the rest of the day feeling lost in the world not having had the chance to participate in observance of these shenanigans.

Now that I think about it... The New York investigators actions make the whole thing appear to be that of setup.

They have some kids volunteer to make a video about a lack-luster town, take minor beating from the locals (all in payment for becoming 5 minute national YouTube stars), then have a State Investigator come into a town that is being broadcast all over the net only to say, “Anybody that doesn’t belong there, anybody that’s not a resident, just stay out of Oniontown”.

Bam, instantly everyone wants to visit Oniontown to see what in the world is going on there and how it could be so bad. The town is flooded with external income and is able to become a new tourist hot spot year after year...only because they also timely plan an Onion festival (ugh) for all the tourists to enjoy while they happen to be passing through.
