This isn't even one of those made up statistics... that is just down right impressive. I can't believe so many people don't have a clue and don't notice right away...

Who get secured at airport by "security mega-forces" if crime there is higher than in any other place?

someone got the numbers wrong or else frequent fliers will soon run out of laptops to lose/cash to replace the loses.
at that level we should see warning signs to watch your step, slippery laptops on the floor etc.

LMAO...this is one of two reasons.

1. Insurance Fraud (Homeowners insurance)

or

2. These numbers reflect the percentage of stupid people that roam our country.

Somebody just has to get in front of you at a security checkpoint and then either he or his accomplice can steal your laptop while you are stuck going through security. You won't notice the laptop is gone until they have disappeared.

There was a special on techniques like that back in the 90's. The guy in front of you would be carrying all sorts of metal to set off the detector and waste time while his accomplise pocketed items coming out the other end. The laptop owner is stuck helplessly behind the metal clad person so he can neither see, nor do anything about his items coming out of the scanner. Airport security obviously doesn't know, or care who those items belong to when they come out of the scanner.

The other thing is that many people are just plain stupid. A person will leave their laptop on a table and go to get a cup of coffee not thinking about how easily his laptop can be stolen.

I work in a library where morons leave their laptops lying around all the time while they do other things. People will even plug their cell phone chargers into the wall and walk away. Then they are so surprised when their laptops and phones dissapear.

Name/address labels on laptops would help
