Panasonic today announced its latest device in the Toughbook series. The CF-1 comes in a UMPC form factor and promises to remain operable even in extreme environments.

The device comes with an Intel Atom processor Z520 CPU (1.33 GHz with 533 MHz FSB, 512KB L2 cache), 1 GB of DDR2 memory, a 16 or a 32 GB SSD, a 5.6” (1024x600 pixel) display, LED backlighting, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth integrated as well as wireless broadband and GPS as options. As other Toughbooks, the CF-1 also comes in a sealed case that will survive 4-ft drops without damage and withstand rain, spills and dust.

The device weighs about 2.3 pounds with batteries and offers a battery life of about 9 hours. Panasonic will begin selling the CF-1 in August for prices starting at $2500.
