Chicago (IL) – Sergey Brin has reserved his seat on a future orbital space flight through a $5 million deposit into the newly founded 'Founding Explorer' group. The flight is likely to cost more than $35 million when Brin actually flies into space.

Brin’s deposit is described as an investment into Space Adventures’ Orbital Mission Explorers Circle and the company’s 'Founding Explorer' group. Brin not only is now describes as the first 'Founding Explorer', but also has an official reservation for a future orbital space flight on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft.

In a rather emotionless statement, Brin was quoted saying “I am a big believer in the exploration and commercial development of the space frontier, and am looking forward to the possibility of going into space. Space Adventures helped open the space frontier to private citizens and thus pave the way for the personal spaceflight industry. The Orbital Mission Explorers Circle enables me to make an immediate investment while preserving the option to participate in a future spaceflight.”

If you have $5 million left over as well, you are invited by Space Adventures to make the same investment for the privilege of becoming one of the first 500 humans to fly into space. And you will be joining a crowd that includes Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth, who flew into space in April of 2002. Richard Garriott, developer of the Ultima video game, is scheduled to fly in October of this year.

Space Adventures offers a wide range of flights ranging from $4000 zero-gravity flights, $102,000 sub-orbital space flights (62 miles altitude), and orbital space flights for about $35 million. And those who have virtually limitless financial resources can book a Lunar mission for $200 million or $100 million per seat.
