Since when are cellphones hard to spot? Just look at the jerks that almost hit people without noticing, you'll see a cellphone in their hands and a smile on their face. Obviously the hands free stuff is hard to see, but I can always spot people holding a cellphone to their ear.

Of course they target the 'irrisponsible teenagers' you hear so much about for talking on their cell phones while driving. Just as teens are targeted for wreckless driving and other idiotic assumptions that bring the attention off of adults that do the exact same harmful acts if not more often than the teenagers.

I can almost guarantee that if the exact same study was conducted on adult drivers the statistic would be the same or higher.

Sure teenagers are gonna talk on the phone and be wreckless. They can only learn from the examples that they are given.

Why would hands free be illegal in North Carolina? I could just as easily crank my radio louder than a hands free cell phone, and/or be talking to the passengers in my car. This is no more distracting than a hands free cell phone.

Banning cell phone use is not the be all and end all solution. You might as well prohibit people from talking to each other in a car. The real solution is making cell phones more idiot proof, so they don't provide any more distraction while driving than a normal conversation with any other passenger. Stop being technophobes and think up more useful solutions people.

The stats only mean something if compared to the same study with adults. Its not "surprising" if the rest of the population is doing it as well. Yet another law to take the blame off society for not teaching teens to drive correctly.

I've got news for you - everyone ignores those laws, not just teenagers. I think it's unfair to target them, when so many so-called "adults" do the same thing.

First, its "reckless", not "wreckless" driving that gets you in trouble. Second, most teenagers are less experienced and less responsible drivers than MOST adults (**not all!**) and thats why they get picked on.... but that aside, you're mostly correct in my opinion. In North Carolina, (I happen to live there), I see just as many adults as teens/young adults driving while talking or texting. It's not entirely because of the lack of enforcement, there is actually quite a bit of ignorance about the law. That and apathy.... Almost everhy time some idiot nearly kills me in traffic, he or she is on a cell phone. The worst part is they just don't care, and you're the bad guy if you honk at them. I hate bumper stickers, but that "Hang Up and Drive!" one sure looks tempting sometimes. Also, 12% sounds a bit low... I was thinking more like 80% :-p

I am not really sure how this law is going to affect safety on the roads. I was trying to learn more info about it and found http://handsfreephonelaw.com which helped me understand the new changes.

Seriously, i have msn on my phone, i think im going to be the target of these laws more then some chatty phone user.. still ill do it out of sight and cause i can touch type on my phone (sad i know) ill keep it hidden...

of course that said, im probably the worst driver , the one who has to read the msn's back!

of course i dont actually do it, im too scared of driving i just say "brb" lol and then phone in pocket.. if its something big people will spam me, my phone will vibrate and ill pull over in a maccas and get fat and read
