OK, for read-only devices this could pass perhaps. But I'm not buying Blue-ray writer untill I see media prices dropping to the same price/capacity ratio of DVD's.

I mean, here I have to pay ~23$ (local prices) for 25GB media (which I believe is again more like 23GB really), which puts it at 1$ per GB. DVD is 12c/GB and even HDD is 25c/GB. So would anyone explain why would I pay 400$ for a Blueray device, plus 4x the price for every GB of storage? Hell, for 500$ I can buy a real nice standalone computer that would be placed by my TV, already packed with TB storage, and for every BD media I can buy four times in HDD storage space!

I just can't imagine people buying these things in large numbers anytime soon.. ROM yes, in baby steps, but even they will probably be overrun by streaming content in the end.

Don't care what they say, ATTA these drives are being integrated from the start and until I can see a clear difference between an upscaling movie program on my laptop and the BD native format, I will always "down-grade" my BD to a regular DVD /-RW drive and save lots of $$. IMHO, there needs to be major deals for anyone to consider it as well as consdering how expensive BR movies are as well

if you can't see the difference between upscaled DVDs and a native BluRay you must be blind or your screen is garbage, the difference is huge even on my 15" laptop screen and incredible on something like a 52" LCD....

I agree the price of burners and media needs to drop huge amounts to make BD-R popular, but then they are already cheaper than DVD-R products were at release.
