I have been reading about some process that involves an aluminum alloy to make hydrogen on demand. I wonder what this will cost? Will there be a huge tax on water now? or aluminum? Will the oil companies try to undermine any new technology or do some of their own research to advance new energy technologies?

Would be nice to leave the oil companies in the dust where they belong because they are complacent just collecting massive profits while putting nothing back into building new refineries or research of new technologies. I believe they only want to prolong our dependence on oil.

Sure, the hydrogen on demand sounds interesting enough... but 40mpg isn't impressive, especially since it is still dependent upon gasoline.

The Tesla Roadster and the Fisker Karma are way more impressive if you ask me.

At least we have acknowledged the necessity, now we have to meet the demand for change on a massive scale. We as a human race will be totally screwed in the very near future... *sad* :(

I doubt many would be able to afford the high price of this vehicle. It looks cool if one can afford it.

I will stick with my Smart Fortwo Pure. I get 33 mpg in the city and 40 highway. It seats two and is very comfortable and way more affordable (starting price for the pure is $11,590 ). :)

First bio-fuels, mainly ethanol production from corn, play a part in driving up the global prices of food, and now we're going to be burning up water in our quest for cheap energy? There are millions of people without access to clean water - and now we'll be using it to drive our brats to the mall. How typically American.

The reason that using bio-fuel drives up the price of corn is because people have to make more corn. When hydrogen is burned it makes WATER again so no it will not make a water crisis. Also we will not be taking water from people who need it, we will be using are own.

Oil monopolists and elitists keep the technology surpressed. they could build a car that ran for 100 years off water or electricity but they want to keep taking our fuel money.

it doesnt matter how much it would cost for a hydrogen on demand system.. the world is a massive currupt game... and when THEY decie they want to give you free energy and water cars, they will... but until then... go ahead and be a sucker for the half hydrogen half fuel hybrid BS they spin.

I stumbled across a paper on this same idea about 5 years ago and decided to try it in my old 89 honda accord.

The idea is simple. There's a water tank(usually in the trunk) that has two electrodes(bolts). These bolts are attached to the battery and when you're switched on, the bolts produce hydrogen and oxygen bubbles. A hose with a small pump then sucks these hydrogen/oxygen mixture into the air intake on your car. You get a small increase in gas mileage when your cars computer compensates for the hydrogen by sending less gas to the cylinder.

The problems I personally had with such a device were...

#1. It would require a large amount of electricity to get enough H and O to make a noticeable difference.

#2. You have to be very careful that the pump isn't sending gas to the engine when it doesn't want it. For example, sitting in a parking lot with the key turned on, but the engine off, would mean a good deal of flammable gas being sent to an engine that isn't running. That's not good. Hydrogen isn't really more dangerous than gasoline, but it's still not good to have a bunch of it floating around your engine compartment when you finally fire things up.

#3. The water needed an additive to be effective, usually salt. The salt would rust the elctrode bolts and make the water a mess. The tank had to be removed monthly for cleaning and electrode replacement.

#4. A friend had a similar rig on his lawn-mower, and the thing backfired dangerously enough to convinve him to give up. I wasn't there, but he claims he almost lost his arm.

#5. This thing is just converting energy from electricity to hydrogen gas. Everyone knows that you can't convert energy with 100% efficiency, which makes me wonder if you'd be better off just going the old electric hybrid route.

I'm not saying that Ronn Motors hasn't considered all of this and/or solved the problems that I encountered. I'm sure they have. I just don't know if it's any more efficient that a electric hybrid system.

However,seeing this article makes me want to give my experiments another shot.

This technology is VERY REAL. I know the guy behind this hydrorunner technology. I've seen this from the beginnning stages last year to what it has evolved into currently. I have personally seen the system & ridden in the test vehicles.
They are actually getting better results than 84% (improved fuel mileage) on most of the vehicles they have installed them on so far. They can only state that percentage though because that was the actual test results that the EPA test center in CA rated it at.
The major difference between what you will see on YouTube & hydrogen-conversion kits and the hydrorunner system is the secondary computer system (on the hydrorunner system) that makes the hydrogen induction efficient. It is WAY more advanced that anything you are going to find in those kits you can order online.

Awesome looking car! Hydrogen is in my opinion, miles ahead of any other base fuel in terms of easy of extraction and pollution. Once we run out of easy petrol. its the next best bet. And has the potential to keep our petrol supplies going for at least 50% longer. If you really want to think about it. The only other option on the table is Ethanol, and it is already eating into our global food store.

Seriously, your type will find something to complain about until the end of time. Why don't you try this one on for size. Get off your lazy rear and try to create something positive in this wonderful country. How typically American? give me a break, we have been the leaders and WE donate more to your precious little people that don't even have clean water to drink than any 5 countries combined. Hold on I need to wipe a little baby tear from my face.

This is an incredible program, yes it is for the super rich, but all of you brilliant ones out there think about who was able to afford the first car, the first TV set, the first airplanes??? that's right the rich people. Could everyone afford a plasma screen when they first came out? No, but now they are seriously making it into more and more homes.

Once they have perfected the system in the Scorpion it will trickle down to more affordable cars. why can't any of you just use your heads and think about the history of the GREAT country before you sound so short sighted.
