Orlando (FL) – Three astronauts orbiting in the International Space Station are having a rough time after their only toilet broke. The toilet fan has stopped working and that means liquid waste cannot be collected. Thankfully the astronauts don't have to hold their number 2 because NASA says solid waste collection part of the toilet is working properly. As an emergency backup, astronauts have been using the toilet on the docked Soyuz capsule, but the capacity on that toilet is reaching capacity (I don’t even want to know what happens if the capacity is exceeded).
But help is on the way, a 29-pound fan pump was delivered to NASA yesterday and will be included in the upcoming shuttle mission. Read more … Associated Press via Seattle Times.
