When prices get cheaper and cheaper two things are happening. 1) everyone is adopting the technology, so the development costs go down and the risk of losing $$$ is less or 2) you are trying to make it affordable in hopes that it will start to become a standard, which isnt happening. Look @ HD-DVD, it did the same thing. I bought mine for 180 over 2 years ago and there 1,000,000 people that wont get burned twice.

Walmart is doing the $100 promotion if you buy a PS3.

So bestbuy did a pricematch (more as in a deal match) to fight Walmart.

It isn't about proof it is not going to be a standard or anything like that. Walmart just decides for this week they will give $100 gift cards for those who buy PS3. Bestbuy doesn't want Walmart to have all the sales so they did the same thing as well. Neither company will hardly lose any money since they are billion dollar companies. Blu-ray is going to be a standard eventually just face it. Remember DVD players when they first came out? Cost like $500-800 for one. Give it a few years and the price will go down.
