I thought it wouldn't be so close. The dynamics of this horse race are getting more interesting every month.

I'm still curious to see what the impact will be once GT-Prologue and MGS4 will have on the market. I was impressed to see that GTA4 sold higher as a percentage of console units shipped on the PS3 vs. Xbox360. Though the Xbox garnered 60% of total sales, It's the first time we've seen a cross platform game actually be chosen by a higher percentage of PS3 owners.

I'm sure if the Xbox had bigger exclusives in April, Xbox would have taken the month handily.

these numbers ignore the only definitive data set, which is global sales.

focusing only on the 360's strongest market gives an extremely skewed view.

WII IS TERRIBLE FOR GAMING, if you disagree or down rate your brainwashed like everyone else and are in denial and just proves our point.

GT5-prologue is already out, and is the worst $50 I've spent in a long time. While I agree it is a little more than a demo, it is the most disappointing Gran Turismo title to date. It is missing so much that I honestly even have little hope for the eventual GT5 at this point.

Looks like some nice competition out there for a healthy gaming market. I still find it hard to fathom from the current plotted trends that the PS3 is going to ever overtake the 360 in console volumes, I mean the numbers are the numbers and if you plot the lines over time, they will never intersect. That being said the PS3 is still finally making sales so they'll be in the race for years to come.

In regards to the Wii's popularity, I've said it before, I attribute that to the Wii not being "Next Gen" but instead a "New Gen". The Wii finally bridged the gap between the gaming world and the general public who would have never touched a controller. Is that good for us experienced gamers? I would say it doesn't hurt, it might actually spur some interest from those new to gaming and playing a Wii to say, "Hey what's so good about those other games (360, PS3, PC)?"

I can understand some frustration from pure tech guys on these chats who would say "But the Wii is only slightly better than an original Xbox, the graphics are junk for 2008" and I feel that sentiment sometimes, but hey if the game entertains you and you come back for more, is the Wii really all the bad....not in my opinion.

I mean look at the stock market, the only segment not impacted from the current lows is the gaming industry, that just means new, innovative and high quality games for years to come to satisfy our appetites.

Both Xbox and PS3 sold more units this x-mas than last and they both appear to have sold more units YTD 08 than 07. Fact is, Wii is generating press and that is helping the entire industry. Wii is helping bring people to gamming that used to think it's just for 13 year old fanboys. So pull your head out and be happy nintendo is doing so well.

I very much agree that Wii is terrible for gaming industry. You'll see, the next generation of gaming consoles will not see a great increase in hardware specs, but they will all emphasize on the interactive factor, thus bringing in shittier games and uglier graphics. Look at Wii now, besides Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda, I doubt there are many other games a more advanced player would consider. Thus, the general dumb down of the population will continue, and games once again will be those colorful arcade titles.

If you want shiny games with no substance you'll always have a PS3 or similar to buy. The majority of gamers want to be entertained, and are tired of multimillion dollar games where > 90% of the budget went to the tech and assets, leaving us with < 10 hours of very linear and boring gameplay.

Don't believe me? Just look at the sales figures... Microsoft and Sony both misjudged the size of the “casual console” (for lack of a better term) market and scrambled to cash in too, however Nintendo has them beat on price, innovation, and, most importantly, customer perception.

The wii proves that a good game doesn't need cutting edge graphics. Some of the best games ever made have bad graphics, but they are still great games 10-20 years after they were made. The gaming industry had been too focused on graphics and hardware specs and as a result they made gorgeous games that sucked to play. The wii has alright looking games that are a blast to play. Graphics will still get better, but they really aren't that important when it comes to gaming.

gamming? it's spelled gaming. why does the 360 always dominate holidays too?
