Irvine (CA) – Now is the time to start making your Night Elf or Orc costume because Blizzard Entertainment has announced the dates of this year’s Blizzcon convention.  The sort-of annual meeting of thousands of World of Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft players will happen on October 10th and 11th at the Anaheim Convention Center.  Ticket prices will be $100 and are sure to sell out (like they have in the past).

The first Blizzcon was held way back in 2005 and you can read our coverage here.  Blizzard skipped 2006, but held their second convention in 2007.  While most of the 5000-plus attendees are avid World of Warcraft players, Blizzard does use the convention to showcase upcoming products like it did last year with the intro of the Starcraft II trailer.

For World of Warcraft players there are costume contests (the Succubus one is my favorite), discussion panels on classes and professions and previews of upcoming releases.  Most likely this will be for the next expansion pack: The Wrath of the Lich King.  Blizzard tends to take its time on game releases, but it’s probably a safe bet that it will try to recreate the same buzz it did in the first Blizzcon by showing off the Burning Crusade Expansion.  If I were a betting man, I'd say Blizzard will aim for a Jan 2009 release of the expansion.

Blizzard Entertainment says tickets will be available within the next few weeks.
