Waterloo (ON) - Research in Motion has officially unveiled its newest Blackberry phone.  Previously known only by its model number, 9000, RIM took the wraps off its name over the weekend, giving the world a view of its "Bold" mobile.

The Blackberry Bold sports a sleek 480x320 pixel screen able to display 65,000 colors, and integrated GPS with geo-tagging capabilities.  What really sets it apart, though, is that it supports tri-band HSDPA and 802.11 Wi-Fi.

Clocking in with a 624 MHz mobile processor and 128 MB of Flash memory, it is one of the most packed Blackberry phones to date.  Additionally, it includes a gigabyte of internal memory and a microSD(HC) card slot.

According to RIM, the name was derived from initial focus group testing, when people consistently referred to the device as "bold."

"The new BlackBerry Bold represents a tremendous step forward in business-grade smartphones and lives up to its name with incredible speed, power and functionality, all wrapped in a beautiful and confident design," said RIM president Mike Lazaridis.

In addition to the impressive technical specs, the Bold also features a full Qwerty keyboard, a 2 MP digital camera with camcorder functionality, and all of the Blackberry's typical messaging and communication applications.  A full HTML Web browser is also built right in.

With all that hardware, RIM says the battery life is still five hours of talking and 13 days in standby mode.  Official release date and pricing is yet to be disclosed.
