Tokyo (Japan) – The United States and Japan are jointly developing the next generation of interceptor missiles to be used on all Aegis-equipped destroyers. The SM-3 Block IIIB would have an approximate range of 1000 kilometers and deploy several warheads against incoming missiles.
The new missile could counter any country or organization that decides to launch a multiple missile salvo against the United States. It could also help defeat multiple warhead (MIRVed) ballistic missiles and decoy-deploying missiles. Read more … The Daily Yomiuri.
