Music band Nine Inch Nails has published its most recent album “The Slip” as a free download under a creative commons attribution non-commercial share alike license. Included are ten songs, which can be accessed via a registration that requires users to provide their email address.
The band distributes the music files as MP3 (320 Kb/s), FLAC, (CD-quality) M4A or uncompressed WAV (24 bit/96 KHz) via torrent networks. All downloads come with artwork and credits in PDF format. The Slip is scheduled to be released on vinyl and CD in July of this year. The band members said that they “encourage [downloaders] to remix [the music], share it with [their] friends, post it on [their] blogs, play it on [their] podcasts, and give it to strangers.”
