Here's an idea... I pay $60 for a game you made.... it needs to work!! End users should not have to deal with this kind of incompetence with how much we pay for the software! effin pathetic

.. man ... what the heck is this crap .. do they not test there crap b4 they release it .. if its such a big glitch they musta picked it up .. i mean quality of software now is just getting crappyer.. can't they jst release it and release it good .. like back in the old days where u couldn't patch ur ps1 games

just log off the playstation network and you're golden.

GameTrailers.com has a video comparison of the 2 versions. Between the two, there are a couple things that stand out:

1) The PS3 version uses full-screen filtering (FSAA maybe?) which does a number of things:
a) It takes away jagged edges
b) It reduces colour banding in compressed textures
c) It makes everything look a little bit blurry (which is often a side-effect of low-quality FSAA, which is often used when performance is an issue with high-quality FSAA)
2) The XBOX 360 version suffers from choppiness in certain sections where there are high-polygon counts or lots of action
3) The PS3 version seems to have better surface lighting, possibly due to bump-mapping, which the XBOX 360 version either lacks, or at least isn't represented by the video.
4) Explosions look better on the PS3. They seem to have a Call-of-Duty-style look to them - that is, they seem to have that fake volumetric smoke down pat. There isn't much of that on the XBOX 360 version of the screen, although I must admit that the parts of the video with explosions don't match up between consoles.

Overall, I think the PS3 version looks better, but I haven't seen either first hand.

I don't have either console though, and I don't plan on buying one until those problems are rectified. The XBOX 360's online community stuff is great, but something that completely blew me away was a look at Playstation "Home" (I come from the exiled URU fanbase too). Maybe, and it's a BIG maybe, when that comes out, I might splurge and get a PS3. I like that I can upgrade a 40GB model to 250GB of hard drive space for a meer $100, which is the same price difference from a 40GB to the stock 80GB (if you can still find them). I'd use it to store media stuff on, such as my entire CD collection. After playing and finishing ALL of the GTA games (and I do mean all of them - including GTA1, 2, and the 2 PSP games), I wouldn't mind being able to play GTA4. With that and Playstation Home, as well as the media library features, I think I'd enjoy a PS3. But neither gaming, nor Bluray, are deal-making selling points for me.

"extremely low volume" my ass, I don't know a single person with a PS3 that can play multiplayer. Having to do all of this to play is ridiculous. This is just another notch lower for the ps3 for me, putting it one step closer to ebay.

No argument, but I might add "Home" is explicitly a direct lift from a game called Second Life, and if you like how Home looks, you should give it a try, it's free(mostly).

To bad i followed gamespots advice and deleted my game save.

I've had a few friends who had issues, where as I've had none, and we worked out the only difference was I wasn't logged on as I'm a lazy bugger who hasn't set-up his wireless yet :).

And sure enough they logged of the network and everything is sweet.

the last few weeks we(online community) have supported take-two in hopes that it would not give in to EA. but how they've handled this glitch is ridiculous. their 12 step program is a joke. admit to the glitch and fix it take two. you're losing support. I hope EA buys u guys out.

I'd like to change that just to prove a point:

They are responsible for making sure the *software/hardware works* on the *Windows Vista*. *Microsoft* made the *operating system* not the [3rd-party software/hardware]. All the other *software/hardware* I have work fine. Blame [3rd-party software/hardware manufacturer] not *Microsoft*.

Funny how people criticize the platform builder, when the 3rd-party developers are the ones actually responsible for testing their own products on said platform.

Before I did this, I crashed twice in four hours. (totals).

After I did that I haven't crashed since and I played it for probably 20 hrs this weekend.

I am on a 60 gb north america model.

I didn't disable my network, I just signed out of PSN. So far, no issues. *crosses fingers*

I've tried Second Life, and the user-created stuff is quite frankly, a joke. Nothing looks like it was professionally designed, whereas Home definitely removes any doubt of it. "There!" has a more polished look than Second Life. Coming from URU Live, I know when things are polished-looking (even if the actual game content didn't go very far). MXO also lacked any professionalism, which is likely why it failed.

Hopefully PSN Home will keep the weirdo's out too - there's too many of them on Second Life.

I'm hoping that Home will be made very cheaply, if there even is a cost. It would be ideal if Sony fully subsidized it with advertisements, such as from game publishers and movie studios. The movie theater, arcades, and TV screens would be perfect vessels for advertising, just like IRL. ;)

The tie-in with IRL web aspects and media integration (like the photo/video wall options where you can import your own content), as well as the PSN web integration are VERY interesting, and will likely draw exclusively game-players to other aspects of connected experiences such as blogging and photo-sharing. VERY interesting.

I just bought the PS3 version two days ago. I've played online and single-player (both while logged into the PSN and not), and I haven't had a single issue yet.

Admittedly, the FSAA to me detracts from the strength of the graphics engine. All the backgrounds seem too softened.

I've always played the GTA series on PC. I took a chance on this PS3 version because no PC version was announced. After my experience, I think I'd still like to see a PC version come out in the future.

I've seen both first hand and there little difference. As far as the 360 having choppy video ur smoking crack keep in mind fanboys I own the PS3 version of this game. My friend has the 360 version and the 360 version is slightly better speed and graphics wise to the PS3. If your not worried about .2 secs faster loading and graphics that you will need have to nit pick to notice the diffrence then I would worry about it their nearly identical. BTW i've had no lock ups with the PS3 version and as far as I know my friends 360 version hasn't done so either.

My only real beef with the PS3 version is the 3.3 GB of data you have to load to your PS3 just to play the game. Assassins Creed did the same thing for the PS3 which is starting to make me wonder if game studios are just wrapping XNA and installing to the HDD instead of running if from the disk. At any rate if this keeps up i'll be replacing my 60 gig HDD in no time.

Learn to read: I said I haven't played either version, nor do I even own either console - I'm only going by the video presented by GameTrailers.com, in which what I explained is clearly demonstrated. You'd have to be blind not to notice it.

I also went on to mention that given the fact that there are other reasons to want a PS3, none of which is specifically gaming or Bluray, that it plays GTA4 is just a bonus.

As far as this particular game goes, I'd just like to see how the series has evolved - or devolved ;) - since I've played (and completed) every game in the series so far. PSN Home and the upgradeable hard drive are far more attractive to me though, and I don't favour having to stream media off my PC (I'm exclusively on a notebook now, so storing media on it is not worthwhile for me). I want media on a set-top box connected to my HDTV, and I can upgrade the HDD in a PS3 to 250GB for ~$100, so it's a better deal for me. If I was a hardcore gamer and had vast amounts of media on my PC, and/or used Media Center a lot, I'd find the XBOX 360 more likeable.

If I were to buy a PS3, I'd probably find that a game controller wouldn't get used very much, at least, not until Home comes out.

Here's hoping Sony adds support for the SpaceNavigator PE in Home on the PS3 - you can get one for $59US, and Second Life (on PC) already supports it.

I understand what your saying. I'm just saying don't trust some video from a website. They may have an agenda or a preference etc... If you went to Best Buy or some other brick and mortar I think most people would be hard pressed to find a difference.

I agree with you 100% on the PS3's media capabilities. I've said may times before that I think the PS3 is an excellent media extender and that the xbox is way to loud for that. However the xbox is a better gaming system at this point do to game selection. Many on this board think I hate Sony. Which I must say is odd since I own and Sony TV, camcorder, and of course the PS3. Not to mention I loved my PS2. However to say i'm not disappointed with the PS3 would be a lie. Sony did a poor job with a consoles primary function, Gaming. Mainly IMO to push 2 other technologies they co-developed (the Cell, and BD). However Sony did a great job with the secondary features like being a media center which I love it for. If your looking for a BD/media player I think the PS3 is by far the best product on the market for that.
