I am not sure why politicians think taking our money is their god given right.

California's soon to lose its status as the most restrictive, legalistic state in the union if NY keeps up at this rate.

I'm sure that this will drive all these businesses into New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut etc, so the cash flow for NY will be temporary. That said, I know I'm odd, but I support taxing e-commerce as long as it's taxed the same way as brick-and-mortar (fair's fair). If you're not going to tax e-commerce, then its really not fair to tax brick-and-mortar as the b&m group is also paying property taxes etc.

This is total bunk, but just part of an absurd trend NY has been on for a while. For the past couple of years, they've been hitting us up for sales tax on out-of-state purchases on our INCOME tax returns. I've even heard of them hiring people to place notices and tax forms under the windshields of cars with NY plates parked in NJ mall parking lots. Technically we are supposed to pay NY sales tax on purchases made out-of-state, but of course that's largely unenforceable. The better option would be to rescind that law and find the revenue elsewhere, but instead they probably spend more trying to enforce it than they receive.
