Microsoft’ chief financial officer Chris Liddell briefly addressed Microsoft’s Yahoo acquisition strategy during a conference call with analysts today.
If Yahoo will not accept the current offer, the Microsoft will consider “alternatives”. Liddell mentioned that the software company may either consider a proxy contest or withdraw its offer completely. He indicated that Microsoft will not increase its offer, especially not because of the argument “that Microsoft can afford” such a move. While Yahoo stated that Microsoft’s offer undervalues the company, Liddell said that Microsoft believes that Yahoo’s value has actually decreased in recent weeks and months. Liddell agreed that the addition of Yahoo would accelerate Microsoft’s online strategy. However, the company is prepared to achieve its goals through “organic growth” as well, he said.
