This is why I don't buy digital music or films! Give me a CD/DVD anyday.

You've always been able to strip the DRM out of music and movies. I won't go into detials for many reasons, but if your smart google it and u'll figure it out. No reason to let it keep you from buying stuff online.

What does this mean for places like Napster? They use play for sure DRM along with a lot of other digital download sites.

It's funny that Microsoft is offering suggestions for removing the protection on their files. If burning to and ripping a CD is all it takes to remove DRM then what's the point of implementing it in the first place?

As long as the distributors can squeeze a penny out of it they will push it and force you to buy stuff, that you don't actually "own". And by "owning" I mean "do what you want with it".

can you imagine buying a book and when you try to read it in your bedroom, it says: "Sorry, reading this book is only allowed in the bathtub and the living room couch!"

Considering the pace of changing and evolving audio and video formats today, let's me believe that something like DRM in general is a "outdated" even dangerous mechanism to be forced to use.

As we can see now, Microsoft doesn't waste a second to drop the thechnology that they forced on you until yesterday.

So the are actually encouraging us to commit a felony by duplicating this content outside of the user agreement they put us under.

Why don't we just do this with every song that we download from aywhere? and if what we want is playing the music that we "bought" in any device that I have... WHY DON'T WE GET THE MUSIC WITHOUT DRM IN THE FRICKING' FIRST PLACE ???

This move by microsoft doesn't surprise me. People talk as if Sony is bad. Well, I don't think anyone screws over more customers every year than microsoft. Bar none.

I'm not sure if TuneBite is the software or not, but there is a windows application that actually emulates a CD burner --- it grabs the "burning" data and then re-encodes that back to an MP3 or other audio format.
Although it was designed for removing ANY DRM format,

This option is available now using the Amazon MP3 music store. High-quality DRM-free MP3's, legally bought for the same price or cheaper than what you can buy them for at iTunes or other places that like to limit your freedom by telling you what you can play songs on and what not.

This also shows how much you can trust Microsoft and the like. "PlaysForSure" was a promise to their customers, now you see how easely they break a promise like that and leave their customers in the lurch. I'm sorry, but many of their customers that bought music aren't technical enough to figure out how to carry out Microsoft's solution of 'burning to CD and ripping to MP3'. For those customers, they made them pay money for something with a lock on it and now they are throwing away the key.

yes, buy from amazon and got no DMR..never got outdated and is cheaper than Nazi Apples. or else rip from your own CD like president bush did to his Beetles CD.
