Hewlett-Packard announced a new server blade based on its ProLiant DL160 series, which is available with AMD quad-core Opteron (Barcelona core) servers. The G5 model can be equipped with Opteron models 2352 (2.1 GHz) or 2356 (2.3 GHz).

Standard features include one Opteron 2352, 1 GB memory and an 80 GB hard drive for about $1900. Upgrades to a second processor, up to 32 GB of memory, more hard drive space as well as 10 Gbit Ethernet, PCI-X can quickly elevate the price into the neighborhood above $15,000.
