Heck, I won't even pay a dollar for a theater ticket now. Dollars to dimes says they still force-feed 20 minutes of ads and "don't copy our movie" propaganda down the patron's throat before the main feature starts. It might be worth a little more money if they screened out the boneheads who don't shut off the cellphones and pagers, but $35? Dream on ...

They should make sure that cell phones will NOT work inside the theater. And maybe ejector seats for people who won't shut the !@@#! up.

There is an AMC near me (in Framingham, MA) which has a premium cinema, you have to call to get tickets (or show up in person) because you reserve your exact seat! You can make reservations for dinner before or after the movie, which you would eat in attached bar and grill. You can get appetizers brought into the theater up to the end or the previews, then you have to go pick them up. There is also free popcorn and soda during the movie, you have to pay for alcoholic drinks.
The theater is THX certified, and each seat is leather (I dont think they recline, but you do have your own two armrests) and a sliding table in front of you, they also had a couple bench seats (for couples?) but they are off to the side. It is also 21 so no whining kids.
Tickets are $18 per movie, and I personally think it is quite worth it, however they have a habit of showing movies that are not so great or new (but I may stand corrected, because they have 21 this Friday).

Until there's a fire and people can't use their cell phones to contact 911, and then sue Village Roadshow Ltd. for ungodly amounts of money because their new Gucci clothes got scuffed and smell like smoke now.

There's a theatre in Birmingham, Michigan already doing something very similar (check out Palladium Theatre). $25 gets you a buffet dinner, all you can eat popcorn and soda, and an assigned comfy high back leather recliner chair. I've used it many times, and it's great. And the nice thing is, it is out of the price range for the noisy, rude kids who like to go to movies and be loud and talk on cell phones and yell to thier buddies across the theater, and then want to pick a fight with you when you tell them to shut up. Worth every penny...

Hopefully, they'll have a set of rules listed, and state cell phones must be off, or you'll be ejected. This way no one can aruge, or file a law suit.

Because of corse the theature wouldn't have a method of alarming people of a fire...and maybe sprinkling something on the fire to put it out....

I would absolutely love the truly reclining chairs and foot rests! It sucks trying to use the seats in front as foot rests. I think all theaters should have done this ages ago!

I would not go to a theater with leather seats though...

For the price of $70 (me and a date) I'll wait the 3 months for the DVD and sit in my own comfy chair at home and watch the movies on my wide screen, drink beers and eat steaks. Home theater equipment carries the same THX certifications, and just needs some careful thought when you put it all together. I'm sure the experience is quite similar.

You can't make a theater that is cell-proof intentionally. It creates problems with doctors and emergency workers who are on-call.

and it has been around for many years. It's just one of those novelty pamper yourself things, I seriously doubt anyone would be a 'regular'...
