They just run over and grab someone's stuff and run off with it because something on the INTERNET said it was for the taking? I sure as heck wouldn't offer them amnesty, no one is that plainly stupid.

You'd think some people might have though this was a hoax when they arrived and found the front and back door locked and no one at home. If I found 30 people rummaging around my house I think I'd have a heart attack. There are things that would be returned like a couch or tv but what about the irreplaceable things like that watch you got from your parents for your 21st birthday, small enough never to be given back.

Robert Salisbury & cops should (probably doing that now) get in contact with craigslist from out the ip address of the posting and home-in on the person who posted the ad and sue them big time and seek partial compensation from the people who stole his belongs.

I've seen things like this on Craigslist a number of times. I was interested in one item and the listing said in effect "It's sitting in the driveway, don't bother knocking, just take it."
Well, I emailed anyway, and the item was already gone, but you're talking about theft, or at least the appearance of it, ALWAYS check before you take anything from someone's property.

Oh, and the Amnesty was a smart move on behalf of the owner/cops, it's so they can actually get the stuff back. If the cops actually started arresting the people, then people wouldn't volunteer the stuff, they'd sit quiet and hope no one figured it out. They should up the pressure though with a "temporary amnesty", like 30 days to return the stuff or else you WILL be prosecuted.

A few months ago someone did the same thing in my north Texas area. After a court order craigslist gave up the IP of the person who posted the AD and it turned out to be the cousin of the victim.
