he is bored...he want out.

Wow... perhaps Negroponte is getting out of the way of his own ego? The man has ZERO experience in running a company, so why would folks expect OLPC to run well under him?

This is one of the smarter things he has done recently... now if he can just swallow his pride and realize that he does not have the moral authority to setup a monopoly to serve his vision, perhaps his 'vision' can succeed. Requiring folks that participate in OLPC (Intel) to not participate in any other competing efforts is ridiculous.

In the past he has put the success of OLPC ahead of the success of his vision (getting cheap laptops to the disadvantaged). Getting a real CEO is a good first step, perhaps soon he will come to grips that OLPC (the company) may not be the ONLY potential solution to his vision. He will soon need to make a decision on whether the success of his vision or the success of OLPC the company is more important to him (they both may not be possible). Until then, OLPC the company will struggle and unfortunately may slow/drag the success of his vision.

People need to separate the company efforts from his vision. A non-profit company, while sounding great and appearing nice to the press, may not be the best or most efficient solution to get to his vision.
