Cupertino (CA) - The next iPhone update will include support for Microsoft Exchange, allowing the mobile device to have a streamlined platform for push mail, contacts, and calendar applications.

Apple made the announcement at an event today focusing on iPhone developers.

The update will bring Microsoft's ActiveSync technology to the phone, allowing instant transfer of content from a computer to the iPhone.  It also allows multiple iPhone users to have live e-mail communication through a direct push platform over Exchange.

On the enterprise front, Apple noted that the next iPhone update will include push contacts, support for Cisco's IPsec VPN, enterprise-class WiFi, more configuration tools, and a remote wipe feature.
