Cupertino (CA) - Apple was supposed to have a thousand movies on iTunes available on a digital rental basis for the Apple TV by now, but so far there are not even 500.

Steve Jobs reportedly told shareholders at a meeting this week that he was "not happy" with the slower-than-expected track to bring the added content to Apple's set-top box.

At his annual Macworld keynote, Steve Jobs said that 1000 movies would be available for rent on the Apple TV by the end of February.  Earlier this month, the company removed the ability to see a complete list of available titles.

According to Jobs, talks with movie studios have not been effective as Apple had hoped, and it has been a struggle to get their approval.

movie studio is not like music company. they want to sell blue-ray disc/DVD rather than sell the moives in cheap to apple in low resolution apple tv. Apple is not yet controlling the market and they would not like to see them self to be controlled by apple like the music industry is.

Forget AppleTv. Tivo and Amazons offering is 100x better then the AppleTv and iTunes offering and probably always will be. M$ and 360 aren't that bad either but not as good as Tivo/Amazon

yes, you can download, but not even at dvd grade video. Its good for preview but not for collection. I will rather use netflix while it's free with no restriction than pay apple with restriction on how long you can view it and where you can view it. Have the whole US internet to upgrade is going to cost so much no one want to pay. Telecom is already fill up to the neck with debt. (from last internet boom and buyouts.) who has money to spend to exchange all network equiptment and lines?
