New York (NY) - 2K Games has pulled the plug on the Wii version of its upcoming Civilization game, but it's still coming out for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo DS.

"Development for the Wii version of Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution is currently on hold," said 2K in an official statement.  "We are focusing our attention on creating the best possible Civilization experience for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS platforms."

Developer Firaxis said this was mainly because it was too taxing to create a completely different control interface and graphics package for the Wii version.  Additionally, the Wii was not even in its game plan when it first started working on the console game.

"If we had started the project with all four platforms in mind, it is far more likely that we would not have put the Wii version of CivRev on hold," said Firaxis programmer Scott Lewis in MTV's Multiplayer blog.

"I think the Wii would be perfect for a game like Civ, but we’d have to throw out all of our interface work (and some of our game design decisions) to make it feel like it truly fits on the platform," Lewis added.

why make a game...and scrap production on the one console that is the most popular and has sold the most? plus, with the pointer function of the wii, they could make the control layout just like a computer game, and the wii remote can work just like a mouse. Additionally, the wii is targeted towards a market that would appreciate games that require you to think, not just press buttons and kill monsters or aliens. just look at the majority of the games on the wii, they are hinged on thinking, problem solving, and puzzles, which is what civilization is all about. game makers are dropping the ball with the Wii. SOOOO many people have it, and there are not that many quality games out on it. if a game maker would put out a "Wii must have" they would sell 10's of million. just watch the sales numbers of Super Smash Brothers Brawl, which will be one of the first "Must haves" for the Wii.

The issue isn't the pointer/user input, this is a trivial matter for games makers. It most likely has to do with the fact that the Wii doesn't have that much computing or graphic power. Firaxis most likely started developing this game for the 360 when the wii first came out and it would likely be a ton of work to tune/dumb down the graphics, AI complexity, map size, etc... to work with the Wii and still meet there release schedule. I like/own a Wii, but let's face it, the Wii is WEAK. It uses a slightly better Game Cube GPU and a slow processor with limited RAM. Your not going to get high powered graphics or complex AI's with the power offered by the Wii. That's why i've maintained that if your a gamer you need at least 2 consoles this gen. A Wii (for fun) and (for serious game play) simple as that.

I have a Wii also from the begining..and it's not just slow, you have to downgrade the graphic just to fit it on wii... the pointer interface in wii is good but really, how many small children or old fokes and chicks are going to play CIV on wii? They might have large install base, but most owners are casual gamers... look at the many games they sold for wii in japan...they are mostly gear towards woman or little kids...it has to be simple for first time gamers...which CIV is more for grown up...
