Blu-ray has momentum and these numbers show it. Buyers see a winner emerging and they're putting their money behind it.

As much as I've been rooting for HD-DVD, I'm seeing the writing on the wall. I'm just glad I only spent $98 on my HD-DVD player.

Without the PS3 and 360 add on BluRay have sold more stand alone players. The HD-DVD group always include the 360 add on in stand alone player stats.

I dont understand why NPD world cast doubt on their own stats without supplying any clarifying figures. They say a promotion may have caused the 93% market share but supply no figures to back that up. How many of the units were those in the promotion? if the promotion weren't included what would the market share have been?

Personally I believe the HD-DVD promotional group have pressured them to try and make this war seem closer than the whitewash it is.

Anyone who knew what they were getting themselves into when buying their HD player understood that it made more sense to buy a PS3 for their Blu-Ray player. The Majority of the blu-ray players were just too expensive.
Also, didn't HD DVD players drop in price too? So wouldn't it still be a comparible market considering some of the players dropped by almost 50% depending on where you go?

Give me a break. When HD-DVD was outselling Blu-Ray, its low price was a positive thing. Blu-Ray outsells HD-DVD (9-1) and it's not 'fair' or 'accurate' because stores had sales and promotions for blu-ray players. FFS. HD-DVD loses, get over it.

I said the same thing about the Patriots this year. 'Oh it's only week 3, who cares about a 3-0 record? I'll be impressed when they're 10-0!'... and when week 11 rolled around, i said 'Well damn, 10-0 is nice but there's no way they'll be able to go 16-0!' Playoffs came and I said 'Christ, 16-0! they'll choke in the playoffs!'. And now they're 18-0 and going up against the mediocre Giants. My point is, don't discount any win, they're all important! Blu-Ray will continue this streak, even with HD-DVD players for $130 with 10 free movies. Pfft.

one week's data of course is not as reliable as a month or a year...but I don't recall any blue ray discount on players...the only thing I remember hearing is toshiba start dumping their player at $150 now and still lose 9:1 to blue ray....or else...it will be 10:1...20:1...even worse.

Its over blue ray is and has been a superior format in capabilities and consumers unlike the beta versus vhs battle now they understand the difference. blue ray is a more capable format 50 gigs hd dvd cant do that, so they lose etc.... and the p3 helps.

During this time, there were no Buy-One-Get-One-Free sales, showing the complete dominance that Blu-ray holds in the high definition market even without purchasing incentives.

No one in their right mind would compare SA player sales... Obviously the PS3 has been the best selling BD player by far, offering more value then a SA player. Why in the world would anyone care about SA player sales when 75% of BD players sold are PS3s??

Very seldom do you come across reagion coded movie in US...and it's same for DVD anyway.
the embedded rootkit program does not affect your computer running either and they are no longer in the market.
If you are illegally copying movie, you are not the market for the movie studio either. they don't want you to buy their players either.

Ive read articles on this site for about 4 years now, and I know you guys use to do some great research articles (though mostly on PC hardware), but I'm sure we would all love to see the breakdown of PS3, SA's, and x360 addons in relation to eachother, and raw movie sales for each format. It would really shed some factuial light on the subject, and would make for some really shiny charts and graphs.

While HD DVD players have been sold below $200 that is still a far cry from Sony, Samsung, Sharp and Panasonic giving away their players with the purchase
of 1080p LCD TV's over the last 3 weeks at every major electronics retailer...Hmmmm... just in time for NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. This just happens to be the time when retailers sell the most TV's other than the Christmas Holidays and the Olympics!! So if I'm buying a TV and your giving me a free Blu-Ray player then I guess I'll take it!! I'm sure that helped spike that #. I'm not hating, just stating facts. I'm sure if they were giving away free HD-DVD players instead of Blu-Ray players the # would have spiked in HD-DVD's favor.

It's pretty scary how effective Toshiba's missinformation campine has been on the week minded and the uneducated. Just because your can't see the benifits does'nt mean there are none. If most people can see them and you can't, then your missing something, your ignorant and don't understand, or you do and don't care about the needs of everyone else. Let me be vary clear. HD DVD doesn't have even one benifit over blu-ray and blu-ray has two major technical advantages over HD DVD which are Starage space and data transfore rate which translate into many advantages over HD DVD. DRM and regional coding are not disadvantages but benifit the studios by protecting there copy writes so countries like China can't copy and distribut there films to a mass market. Individuals who pay for blank discs and computer hardware to make back-up copies are not what the studios care about unless it's being abused and those discs are being sold to the public. When you buy blank media in Canada their are studio royalties included in the cost the said media and paid out to the studios. The system works.

By the same line of reasoning HiDef discs and their players are nothing and don't matter. They are a mere 2.5% of the total home movie market. DVD stomps them regularly.

As far as PS3 goes; it's getting it's lunch eaten by the NEN Wii. So it can't make any superiority claims whatsoever. Remember only sales count, everything else is fanboy fodder.

I think what most analyst are saying, but fanboys want to ignore, is that HD is still too new. Neither format has a true edge over exiting technology (sales-wise) so you can't jump to any conclusions this early in the game.

That's like the people who said the Giants would never make it to the Superbowl this year. Anything can happen.

In the end, the people on this board are a tiny fraction of the people who will ultimately decide the fate of next gen movies. The mass market is a fickle crowd without loyalty and without memory. And they constantly do the unexpected.

Dont rely on fanboy analist , search google for actual sales world wide HD DVD is out selling bluray 20:1 on players and movies , PS# is going into the crapper faster and faster every month. Best buy in my area cannot keep HD DVD titles on the shelves and yet the bluray selection seriously needs a dusting off . and I own neither just stating facts as I see them . The lower HD DVD drive and better graphical quality on the HD DVD in a side by side veiwing at bestbuy, wal mart, jcpenny HD DVD has much better quality picture than blurays fuzzy mpeg2 12 year old codec..

I guess all those Selson Blue commercials over the years got people to think that blue is better...
I am a techie and still don't know the real benefits of either system but as a stupid consumer, "I like the the blue light, it just looks cooler, that is why I bought it"

This article doesnt really make sense, it talked about not looking too much into player sales figures and then has a little ps at the end that blu-ray movies are outselling hd-dvd 2 to 1.
