Redmond (WA) - A rash of injuries from the Nintendo Wii have been recently reported, citing osteopathic doctors who claim that middle-aged parents are at the highest risk.

"We noticed we were getting a number of middle-aged parents coming in having played for far too long on the Nintendo Wii that they had bought their children," said British osteopath Martin Davies in a Telegraph news story.

He said Wii Sports, the game packed in with every console, was the most "dangerous."  Specifically, Davies noted most of the cases are from over-strenuous bouts of the tennis and boxing mini-games.

"The older patients in particular are finding their neck, shoulders and elbows are painful and some said they had been playing Wii for up to 10 hours," said Davies.

Also on the physical fitness front, the Wii has been making headlines for providing users with real workout regimens.  A title devoted specifically to that function, Wii Fit, launched in Japan last month and has since sold over a million copies.  It is scheduled to come out in the US later this year.

So, who can I sue for being old an out of shape?

You've got to be kidding me. Wii Sports is not all that strenuous, and how could you possibly complain about how you feel discomfort after doing something for over 10 straight hours (no inuendos intended). I wish I could sue my school for not warning me that trying to go back and play rugby after turning 30 might hold a higher risk of injury for my fat *ss. Yah, I broke my foot during the second week. And I guess my car should've come with a warning that said "If you try and drive this stick shift with a broken (clutch) foot, it may hurt pretty bad, dumb*ss." Sorry, articles like this just frustrate me.

Do they have to state the obvious that any time you do the same type of workout (even if it is Wii tennis) for ten hours, you are going to have some aches and pains. If I ran the treadmill for 10 hours straight I'd be in pain as well (or more likely I'd be dead).

Seriously, claims like those are plainly stupid, like someone claim ball vendors to be selling "dangerous" products because stupid "ball users" procured themselevs a heart failure after palying soccer 10 hrs without rest... Since those claims cannot be supported, those morons should be sued back for having damaged the bisness and the brand of the vendor.

Has there been a console since the NES that has not had just this article (substitute some doctor's names, the name of the console, and change the date et voila! Reporter doesn't even have to do a lick of work, and yet a controversial topic is written into an article. Ric Romero reports: water is wet, sand is sandy, and out-of-shape people who suddenly take up physically-strenuous activity are subject to injury and strain. :p

Are you realy sure that such users are damaging the industry? I believe this headline is an advertisement message, not realy a news. Read between the lines - the Wii helps you to entertain, have fun AND excercise at the same time! That's the product a lot of middle-aged parents will like!

First thing that comes to mind is who do you sue? No one said anything about a law suit. Do you always think that way. Of course, my thought was that the DOs (Doctors of Osteopathy, not real MDs) are looking for some publicity. I can just see the ads now: "Do you have Wii syndrome. Do your muscles ache; your joints creak; are your hemorrhoids bothering you after a long session of Wii Sports? Go see your local DO and we'll make everything better. (Covered by most insurance plans, as long as you don't mind a doubling of your premiums).

Middle-aged parents playing for 10 hours? Well, no wonder they're suffering injuries. Most game manuals include a warning advising taking a break after every hour of gameplay, and Wii Sports has an on-screen message that pops up every once in a while... But who listens to warning messages?
