Warner has not announced it will push back its HD DVD end date. They announced they will further delay the date they will release the HD DVD version of their movies from the Blu-ray version. Before, catalogue titles were not included, but now they all are subject to a 3 week period between the Blu-ray and the HD DVD. Your staff misunderstood the report.
Warner has not extended their HD DVD support, they have delayed their HD DVD catalogue titles 3 weeks after the Blu-ray release!

LoL! All Warner Bros. did was extend the 3 week delay of new HD DVD releases to include catalogue titles. June 1st is it for HD DVD. Nothing after that.

Twister is the last title on HD DVD to be shipped by Warner and is set for 5/27. That's still May.

June 1st was always the official drop-dead date, so this isn't an extension in any way, shape or form.

Warner has pushed back all of its catalogue titles by three weeks, which means the initial May 6th release date for Twister is now May 27th.

There was no mention at all that HD DVD support was going to stop in May. June 1st was the date they mentioned.

Twister and Bonnie & Clyde have NEVER been annoucned as Blu-ray exclusives. They were announced as dual format releases. Now the HD DVD version has been pushed back by three weeks. Twister was announced several months ago.

I guess they havn't diminished all their HD supplies yet ;)

Warner is not extending anything, as their original HD-DVD cut-off had always been the END of May. Quoted form the original Warner press release from 1/4:

If anything Warner just kicked HD-DVD a bit more with the delay of their catalog titles, since only newer releases were slated for the 3-week delay, but just decided to delay their remaining catalog titles (including Bonnie & Clyde) as well.

I'd be interested in confirmation on the source of this news. It seems like this might be a misinterpretation of what was announced this week: that the 3-week delay in the release window between DVD/Blu-ray and HD DVD has been extended to include catalog titles as well as new releases. This is not the same thing as a three-week exension at all! It's the difference between apparently good news and bad news for HD DVD.

warner is pushing the release dates of hddvds by 3 weeks so not any maore titles released than before just a release date move to take current statement at ces to "end of may" as promised please everyone on both hddvd supporting sites and blu ray sites should do research before posting articled that are not new and that dont change waener brothers stance

That will be Warner's last title release on HD-DVD.

just look at the HD sales figure for single machine and you can tell it's dead already.
with low low price still no one is buying....it's dumping junk at junk price.

It's amazing how the gulable HD DVD camp will try to see what they want to see rather than what is inevitable. They are just closing up shop as far as HD DVD is concerned. They will have to get rid of there stock as all out going formats have done. Remember laser disc. DVD took at least 6 months or more before they were gone. All this talk about lack of compatition is equally bogas as two many formats actually increase the cost, that is why when we find something better they stop making the old formats no different than VHS, Compact disc, 8 track tape, floppy discs ect. Standardizaion of formats is done to reduce cost and have uniformity and cross board compatabillity. Toshiba is the bad guy hear, gilty of triying to force there own format instead of going the way the entire industry was trying to go. The only one inthe industry that didn't have a stake,(ownership),in the HD DVD format was Paramount who was paid 150 million dollars to support the format for 18 months. Roomers that Sony made payouts to studios is completely unture as all were in the BR camp from the vary begining, and all have stated as much to the media as well. Toshiba needs to stop feeding BS to people who don't know emough about the world, Technology, and business to see what is going on. Maybe they should be made to refund all the money they are taking from people who are reading their missleading marketing tackics and mistake them for facts, or all the information such as not removing the PS3 from sales data to generate missleading sale data to the weak minded....ect.

The link is to the German version (which includes the English track). Studios are required to support both formats in some countries. Since HD DVD is region-free, you can import it.

Yes, they may have an English sound track but is it HD quality 7.1 or is it, "We have a bit more space. Lets see if we can fit a 2 channel English track in?"

Google for "Blu-Ray's dirty little secret" and you'll find there is almost no exclusivity to Blu-Ray at all. Most all movies are available on HD DVD. So all you Blu-Ray fans are just blowing smoke!

When a format (blu ray) that has more DRM, regional encoding, and self-executing exe's embedded in them wins , we all lose.

WB very clearly stated June 1 as the end date. The article is just flat wrong. The author of the blog is a flaming _____ and should correct his article rather than leave it there.

HD DVD has DRM so how is that any better? It's still copy-protected and may not play back in all machines (for example your older Win98 or XP machine).

Beta-II (which is what speed pre-recorded movies used) had no better resolution the VHS. Both were 240 lines.

And VHS HQ upped that value to 250 lines.

Plus Beta was limited to only 1 hour initially while VHS was released with LP speed & could do over 4 hours. Consumers couldn't use their 1-hour Betamaxes to record football or movies, but they could use 4-hour VHSes to do it.

And even later on, Betamax was limited to only 5 hours while VHS could do almost 11 hours. So no Beta was not better. Not to the general consumer.

That's why it lost.

Also: Sony may have lost the vcr market, but they won in other areas: Audio CD and Video CD. Umatic. And Betacam (professional arena). Sony's done okay over the last thirty years.

Until Blu-Ray has Universal Paramount under their wings this war is draw regardless of what PS3 owners say. $149 for an HD-A30 is an unbeatable deal, so what if I cant watch Disney in high def. Disney films dont need high def to look great, just upconvert them and they look SWEET. War is a long drawn out series of battles and although BD has won the latest skirmish they still don't have some of the most potent weapons in their arsenal.
