Wasn't Hitler sure of his "superiority", and does that mean he would be a mac owner? and does that mean all mac buyer (or at least 60%) are nuts just like he was? Hell I would ever go as far to say being sure of ones "superiority" makes you a closed minded, egotistical maniac and seems to contradict the survey.

Plus 5% of the mac owners I know are open minded. The other 95% are what I call sheep. They buy what people tell them to buy without thought beacuse if they thought for themselves they might hurt themselves (this isn't a joke).

Me, I own a mac mini. and yeah Mac OS is different and does have some cool concepts, but when it comes right down to it I hardly use it. It doesn't play any good games, no good video encoding software, as a software developer it has hardly any good IDEs and/or compilers (minus intellij but it runs better on linux and winblows to be honest), it's just plain not that useful. I love the Mac OS UI, it's pretty and more functional than the start button and windowX, but it's not so much better i'm willing to ditch programs I need/like just to have a nicer looking UI. The one thing I do love about Mac OS is that it's built on UNIX and I will give it it's props for that.

Anyway just my 2 cents on the Mac is the god of computers argument.

Yep, I was open-minded enough to plop down the extra $500 over the cost of a high-end PC laptop last year. Now my MacBook Pro won't re-connect to wireless networks from a sleep, I get the spinning-pie-of-death constantly, and they want me to fork over $129 for a so-called "new" operating system version which is little more than some bells and whistles.

Now I'm enlightened enough to wish I had a good ol' PC on which I could easily install Ubuntu Linux and JUST HAVE THINGS WORK!

Any liberal thinker out there want to buy my used MacBook Pro? I'll sell it for only $500 more than a similarly configured used PC!

Okay, so the last line in the a main paragraph makes me sick, stating that people who are most likely to buy Macs are "more sure of their own superiority than the rest of the population."

I would ponder to find out how much Apple is paying this company off for the "research" publication, if it weren't for the fact it also makes it sound like those individuals are also excessively vain - we'll call them - metrosexuals, who are more in touch with their inner selves.

A study like this is nice and dandy but most people who purchase or use computers do so for work related purposes. So this report says little about program compatibility and actual needs. You buy the machine that runs the software that you need to use. You also buy the machine that is mostly used in your workplace. Otherwise you isolate yourself (or do a lot of acrobat converting).

So...they're more open-minded...and convinced they're better than everyone else? Riiiight....

One the one hand, they're more "open-minded". Ok. On the other, they're immodest, more receptive to their own inner feelings, and more sure of their own SUPERIORITY. Hmmm. Alternate headline : "Mac users more self-absorbed and arrogant - study finds".

PC owners have greater choice than Apple owners. One does not have to run MAC but can chose between Windows, ReactOS, eComStation, FreeBSD, AmigaOS, and other operating systems. :)

I have 5 computers in my house (Vista, XP, Ubuntu, and Leopard). One is a MacBook Pro. Yes, I paid more than what I would have paid for a comparable Dell or HP. But it is faster, more stable, and more fun to work with on a daily basis than a Dell or HP.

They day that I bought that Mac, I questioned my judgment. But I needed a new Mac to replace an old one, and I really wanted to learn Leopard. Once I got into Leopard and XCode, my doubts vanished.

I couldn't read past the second word... I do believe that Hitler would go with a Dell. I'm reminded of Richard Dawkins' phrase, "By all means, let us be open minded... but not so open minded that our brains fall out." I'm still going to be vain and irrational and purchase a MacBook Air, though. That's what heroes do.

Being open minded is a generic term to describe someone that opposes the one thing that makes humans unique; conflict.

The second I tell someone I think something like global warming or vegetarianism is crap I'm close minded. Doesn't matter what research I've done, if I have an opinion that opposes something that seems "safe" I get branded. The fact people are doing a survey for a statistic that is purely subjective is utter crap to begin with. How about we do a more objective survey like, "What computer do people with above average IQ use?" I'll tell you it's not going to be Mac on a per-capita basis.

Yeah, I use PCs, what of it? I have a Mac at work and I like them but I also like building computers and paying half as much for it. I'd buy a Mac if it wasn't so expensive for a machine comparable to my PC.

They should indicate WinPC and not just PC since there are other operating systems out there that can run on a PC. I have a pc with eComStation on it, one with Linux and one with WinVistaHE. There are lots of other pc os's out there too. It should indicate Apple MAC since one can install other operating systems on an Apple other than a MAC OS X plust one can install MAC OS X on non-Apple hardware. One should clarify what is being used. Not PC VS MAC but WinPC vs Apple MAC.

I never get viruses. I had a MAC notebook last six years and still nothing is wrong with it except the speed of technology caught up with it. We have five MACs in our house and have not a single regret. We don't need it for games (Software) we need it for art programs, music recording/editing - and the things everyone else does: writing, accounting, email.

If you are so contented and secure with your pc devices why are you so defensive? And Closed-minded?

i have heaps of friends that are like "I want to get a mac there so cool" .. and then I have one friend that i asked why he bought a mac and he said "cause its trendy and it goes with my shoes"

- there way overpriced for what it is
- lack of software support
- lack of customizablity
- crappy as fx cards(kinda goes in the customzabilty group)

Pretty much for the same price i could build a way better PC.. and do way more ..

I'm not saying that macs and their OS are the best. though they are doing a few things right. i'm saying we have to become more open-minded about the way we interact with computers in general.

computers should be gear to the way specific users interact with them and have an environment that fits that. rather then microsoft telling us how they want it done.

Have to agree with "Hmm.... outrage and defensiveness. I've had Mac's since 1985 and have never experienced any major problems and more recently, since the Leopard arrived, even the annoying problems have disappeared. "Goes to show if you put up a warning shot, like quail, the worried will jump up and be ready to be targets. Is this all it takes to rile the PC population? By the way, PC also translates to Personal Computer (Mac and the others), plus politically correct and if politically correct is what the PC crowd is all about it would explain this outburst over a simple survey. Probably the same reason there are so many invasive hackers that try to enter the I stream and cause damage. These are a dangerous lot, probably the same mentality that flew off the handle when the iphone was reduced in price, or those that was upset when Apple broke your iphone when they updated the firmware. Please, please grow up and join those interested in advancing and not remaining behind as technology jumps ahead in leaps and bounds. If we Mac users had your mentality, we would be still breaking skulls with a jawbone, no pun intended. Oh, yes, the Mac and run your software just as effectively and on one computer. Just in case you might have forgotten. Think the US Army is making a mistake in switching their PC's over to Mac; they are as we speak. Colleges and Universities are doing the same. It would be smart to jump your ship and switch to Mac before you are left behind. Of course, the PC world might take the move to really create a new computer, but I hardly think that will happen with the mind set that presently exists. By the way, many of you might not be aware of this little fact, being too young at the time, but if it wasn't for the Japanese forcing change in automotive market, we would still be driving a two ton guzzler tank. Other American automakers attempted to bring about advanced changes, but they were thwarted by the existing auto makers. Really, change is not bad, just painful, but remember, it just hurts for a little while.
